General Iraq/Afghanistan server (archived by John)

First of all I'd like to state that TWC has the finest damn servers around and we should all be proud of them BUT I was thinking:
I have this idea about a new server just like Vietnam, but in a more modern context, let's say Iraq or Afghanistan for example.
Since there are maps, which I consider pretty odd for a WWII game, I think it wouldn't hurt to establish a server for them with US and Hajji skins for the soldiers and maybe add a few commands/weapons/parachute/srynges and also make promotions slower (people should get promoted after completing a part of a class (like on NAM server) and only if they reach a certain amount of xp) so that you can see who is a senior player and who is a new one and it'd stop xp whoring since the primary objective wouldn't be the GoA title, but to work your way up the ladder with teamwork and patience.
I've searched the internet and I've found a picture of a US soldier skin and I think if we'd put some effort in it we could find it or just make one ourselves.
The maps should primarly be objective maps with loads of teamwork and I think establishing fireteams (like on NAM) wouldn't hurt.
For the new guns I think we should add some to the sniper class, but we should vote for the rest (M16 and AK47 seem fine to me).
So that's just the basic context of it, but sadly I'm not good at ICT, programming and that stuff, so we'd need some volunteers if you decide to give it a go.
Think about it and I assure you that it'd be great publicity for our clan, since I haven't heard of many servers like this.
If you do decide to make it I'd be honored to work with you on the developing, since I'm really dedicated to this one cause.

Great idea but aren't there are servers like hs , sniper which needs more activity.
In such a situation making another server.....I am not sure though but i really like the idea

Thats a great idea, and btw im from afghanistan tho ,

but the thing is..u need a mod for this one in order to make it happen and i guess its too hard to create a mod for et or idk,

For Afghanistan, would be funny to see Nato+Afghan soldiers vs Talibans and Terrorists with long beards XD

Creating a new mod for ET is not hard if you take another existing mod as base, then it's rather time consuming to customize everything how you want it to be. However if you want to create a whole new mod with your own thoughts, that takes a lot of time and effort too, meaning it's hard I don't know if anyone here would have that much of free time to start working on this project. Plus working alone is even slower and it would take forever to finish

I know that ETPUB is open source so idk if u want etpub as a base mod

ETPub would need a lot of customization and rewriting if you want to create a mod like NAM. At that point I'm not even sure if you should use it as a base mod or start from scratch :P

Very awesome idea! It would be very fun I think But I have to agree with Axel, we have Headshot and Sniper which are pretty inactive. So maybe we should make them more active first.

So I've done a little bit of digging and guess what I found:
Someone actually made custom skins for Iraq!
Check them out (I think the terrorist Field ops/Covert ops seem a bit odd, but the others look fine to me):

So maybe if we take Vietnam mod as a base, add these skins and some guns/extra features we're one step closer to making this happen.
I'd give it a shot, and if we fail... at least we tried.

Georgie-boy, I appreciate your innovative ideas and enthusiasm, but I'm afraid we should not forget about the happenings to other TWC servers, which was mentioned in the earlier posts by other members - the facts of the recent 1-2 (?) years that you may not know:
- Sniper is almost dead
- HS the same
- there was a trial to revive old Beginners in form of a jaymod objective server with new maps but this server has been all the time actually empty

As several games become popular like CS, BF and other non-war games, W:ET doubtless loses interest, so I think we should focus all efforts on the existing Et mods and servers. So I do not see any good chances to set up another Et mod server, I would support Vietnam with other maps, that may be one of the ways, though those maps must be created by someone, which i snot an easy and quick job.

Another way might be on TWC level - and this was already discussed on forum - to start different game servers like we have Minecraft.

How about changing beginners to this new mod ?
Beginners was almost out of my mind...
There were things in forums for making it to etpro....since have't heard of it after that so many we can try this new mod for beginners ?change the name maybe ?
