Suggestion: Enabling PB (archived by Veli)

Hi,

Recently i started using PB on my war server and streaming it with PBBans.com.
People might think of dafuq your talking about.
Ill explain, since PB stopped supporting ET sites like PBBans.com and others were born to still prevent hackers for playing in PB servers and also several technically updates in future hacks.
And i think if we enable it on ND and other servers it will prevent alot of trouble, like sneak.
Cause you can configure PB just like that you cant change name more then 3 times in a short notice.
You can't spam anymore or duplicate guids or names.
If you join with a hack(doesnt matter which, private or public) you will be kicked for Game integrity violation and a PB screenshot as been made of the hacker and you can submit it on PBBans.com so he will be banned globally on all PB servers that are streaming to PBBans.com
It really prevents alot of admin work, and only once in a while you upload a few PB screenshots to PBBans.com to make the ban globally .
Currently i see more advantages then disadvantage.

Advantages:
More ipbanning.
Less admin work.
Most cheats are still getting caught by PB cause of updates.(saw it myself that even the most private hacks are inside these updates)
No flooding anymore.
No namechangers.
No guid spoofing.

Disadvantages
Ping might raise a little bad configured pb server and pb client.
Little more lag like explained with the ping.
more storage for the screenshots.

Well seems to me that cheaters ratio will get less , but i will lag more

I have encountered a million problems with PB in the past. players got kicked for all kind of reasons. I have been in several clans with used to have PB running en decided to disable it.
Besides. The thing PB is used to it it ain't very good at; kick cheaters. allot if cheats weren't recognised.

That is causing people having from PB versions, mostly very easy problems to fix(must also most common errors are newbie errors like not running ET as admin).

Why use PBBans at all?
PBBans extends the functionality of Punkbuster by enforcing extra security checks on the players using your server. This includes cvars and MD5 checks, which is not used default by Punkbuster. In effect it means that every player using your server is checked for certain file and cvar occurences and if a match is found the person is flagged as a hacker and added to a ban list. These cvars- and MD5-lists are updated whenever needed by pbbans staff - may be more times per day if the need arises. As a user of pbbans you are provided with latest updated definitions available as Master CVAR Library (MCL) and Master MD5 Library (MDL) so that your pbbans streaming server always will repel the newest discovered hacks and added bans. Basically it means that your server is always as updated as possible when it comes to hackers - much like updating your virus definitions in your virus killer. On top of this you benefit from a compiled database that holds information from all other servers streaming to PBBans - much like yawn from where you can do all sorts of data mining, but especially benefit from the bans issued from equally minded server admins. Most of the more sophisticated hacks are not detected by PB. Only those that are broadly available for everyone to download.

If we were to test this, I would highly discourage from doing so on ND. Rather put it on another server like Allstars for everybody to see.
This will allow people to see if it will lag their game and would also allow us to tweak the configurations before putting it onto an active server like ND.

Ligustah, i must say you are terrible mistaking in that.
Arcade has its own compiled ET recently and even that PB catches.

Tho its only wrong testing it on a server were nobody is, than you never will see it in action, 2nd it stops sneak for terrorizing the servers.

Arcade who? Are you really surprised that his primitive hax are caught by the primitive PB? I can tell you at least 10 cheats that easily avoid that laggy piece of crap. Why do you think it's not used for competitive gaming for few years?

PB detects more cheaters in one day than that so called demoteam in a year.

destroy if you have knowledge of using PBBans and nothing else to say pls stay away.
read their site and you will know enough.
And if you have read my topic well enough, you see that PBBans daily update their algorithmes of hacks and their cvars, uncluding new ones

Your plan of adding punkbuster won't get you anywhere.
Punkbuster causes problems like kicks, lag spikes, and it is useless.

Punkbuster itself only detects public hacks, it does not detect most of the private toys. Those so called global bans take a couple of minutes to remove.

By enabling pb you cause more bad than good,
You keep away few guys who download bot and don't know what they are doing.
You lag players, unwelcome spikes.
You can't remove the high end guys no matter what you do. There will always be such around.

I don't want to be known on the forum and I choose to remain in the shadows, all I say is that I am admin currently on a big silent mod server and Sartax, Impulsive and others have been there too and yes they do come back in just few seconds. I've even seen them on the known servers such as Hirntot, FP, HBC and they came back after being banned globally.

There were people like them 5-6 years ago and there will unfortunately always be.

Your only hope is that those guys get bored of what they do.
