How to set up a Jaymod server (localhost)
#1
If you're just a gamer, who doesn't care about servers, maps, mods and other stuff, this tutorial isn't written for you. You're still allowed to read it of course Wink

Note: The server you're about to set up is NOT a dedicated server, which means it's not alive 24/7 but only when you run the server.

The first thing you need to do if you want to set up a home server, you need to reinstall ET to for example C:\WolfET\ or another non-taken path. It's also possible to make a partition and host it on for example D:\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ like I have.
You need a 'clean' install because otherwise other players connecting have to download every single PK3 in your etmain\ folder, and your mod folder. It's also recommended to install a clean installation even if you don't want to host a server for others because you can easier modify and find files, and it behaves like a real server.

If you installed correctly you should get a window to create a new profile for ET when you start the game, because it's a clean install. We're NOT going to do this. Instead, we exit the game. Now we're going to install Jaymod. To make this easier, I've packed my Jaymod into a zip file, attached to this topic.
Jaymod-install pack
Create a new folder jaymod\ on the same level as etmain\ is stored. Extract these files in the jaymod\ folder. The server should now be able to run Jaymod.

How do we configure the server to run Jaymod then? Well, first we need to put together a server config file (server.cfg). I've used the TWC server.cfg as a base for my server.cfg but I don't know if I'm allowed to share this with you. So you'll have to make your own. The default server.cfg may function enough for testing maps and like. Google may help you out here...

Now, how do we start the server running Jaymod? We need to tell ET.exe what mod folder to read when we run it. But if we run ET.exe and THEN opening the console and changing that information, we are already too late because it has chosen etmain as default mod.
To tell the server what mod it needs to run, we use the cvar fs_game and we should set it to jaymod. We also want to execute the server.cfg, stored in etmain/.

Open notepad, or a similar text editor (not Word!) and write this:
Code:
ET.exe +set fs_game jaymod +exec server
ET.exe is the command to execute ET.exe (the server)
+set fs_game jaymod is the ET console command to set fs_game to the value of jaymod, but since the game hasn't started yet, we can still change it.
+exec server is another ET console command to execute server.cfg. We want this to do at startup so the graphical part of the program doesn't need to be started. Servers will only use the console window.

Now save the file in the same folder the ET.exe of our clean install is stored. Name it server_start.bat, be sure it won't be saved as server_start.bat.txt because then it won't work.

Finally we can run the server!! Smile Dubbleclick the .bat file to run the server. Then you might close the windows console when the ET console pops up. If you want friends to connect, you need to forward the port of the game, in this case it's by default 12790. To do this you need to change settings of your router. I can't tell how it works on your router. To connect to your router interface, you need to enter your IP in the address bar of your internet browser. If that doesn't work it's likely to be: http://192.168.2.254/

Use help from Google to find out how to forward the Wolfenstein ET port. Mostly it's a preset but sometimes you need to manually set the ports. Do not install special software for this, because it doesn't work in most cases, and it's very unsafe. Stay off the port numbers 80 and 8080 because those are the http and https ports, which allow you to search the internet if you screwed up.

If you want to connect to your server, just run your regular game install and go to Server List, then hit the filter 'Internet' and click it until it says 'Local', then click the server you see and it should be fine.

To quit a server you can either typ:
quit;
in the server console, or
/rcon <rconpassword> quit; in the client console Wink
