Computer Slow Computer/ ET Help
#1
Hey Guys!

I’m trying to start up et again but I have a few problems.

My all in one computer/laptop whatever it is but it’s a Samsung all in one.
I’ve had it for quite a few years now and it runs very slow. Last time I reset it was over a year ago and I have just set it up again, is there any way I can make start up quicker or make things run faster. I know some of you guys are IT Wizard lol <3

Also should I download the original et or go for the legacy?

Thank you <3

Well as we don't know what kind of slow the computer is...

You could try using CCleaner by piriform to clean up the registry. Also, disable all unnecessary startup programs via msconfig (google it if you don't know it). I'm running normal ET on my 6 years old laptop, so I suppose that works for you too.

There are many ways to make your computer faster, but there are few common ones above. Try that!

AIO computers usually are not that good on upgrading parts. Have you tried any of the things we have suggested on this thread other than posting you computer specs?

As you mention it is quite an old AIO computer, it is likely that the hard drive simply lost most of it's writing and reading speed and therefore your computer will be inherently slow even if you try these things like ccleaner. Going for an ssd drive will surely boost the startup time immensely. Other than that, there's not much you can do I'm afraid. ET should run on almost any computer anyway.

As for the ET version. I suggest to stick with the normal one. There is a good download link on the bottom right of the TWC forums homepage Wink

P.S. I can't find confirmation online that the hard drive slows down but it's more like a personal experience.

What exactly do you call very slow ?

I have a 10 years old laptop, with a slower CPU than yours.
I can change CPU for about 50€, but it doesn't really worth it, wouldn't change a lot of things...

You can add RAM if possible, it will speed it up, but just a little bit...

Also, you could try to open and clean it, if you know how-to do this.
A lot of dust inside can overheat the machine and slow it down.

But...

Exactly Smile
The only way I found to really speed it up is to change the hard drive : try a SSD, it will change everything ! Wink

Thank you all for your help, I will most likely sell my all in one then buy whatever a pc when I save up money. Appreciate it the help and idk if it’s my fps or whatever but my et keeps freezing, especially in the server list it just freezes and the sound freezes too so it repeats the bit it’s on, anyone know a fix for that?

When you say "reset" it do you mean clean installation of the OS? If that didn't make things snappy then it's definitely hardware related.

Judging by the specs it's an old geezer, innit? Also what OS you rocking?

Not sure if upgrading to an SSD on a machine like that would bring much benefits honestly, but then again SSDs are very cheap currently so might as well give it a try if it would make the machine somewhat usable.
