In this thread, I am going to show you what exactly is a MapCycle and how to use it..

This tutorial is mostly related with the JAYMOD settings/configurations ONLY.

Here We Start !
*************

The Server mapcycle is either located on the etmain folder or the Mod[Jaymod,Nitmod,Etjump etc] folder through FTP itself, depending on what type of name is given for it but the "cycle" word should be given in it atleast (i.e campagincycle.cfg/stopwatchcycle.cfg/modcycle.cfg etc) most of these mapcycles are in .cfg format so its easier to edit & use them..

As for our headshot server, the mapcycle is located in the Jaymod folder in FTP with the name modcycle.cfg (I Dont know about the other servers but just telling my homeserver's one so ye)

~ What is a MapCycle ?

Its a config file that powers/controls the server's maplist in one order and executes one map after another when that one map ends..

~ How to use it ?

You need to open it and Edit/Add words that relates with the cvar commands and stuff, after all its a .cfg file so keep in mind..

This is how a mapcycle looks like when u open it. for example ND's old mapcycle one :-

set d1 "set g_gametype 2 ; map radar ; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "set g_gametype 2 ; map battery ; set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "set g_gametype 2 ; map goldrush ; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "set g_gametype 2 ; map railgun ; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "set g_gametype 2 ; map fueldump ; set nextmap vstr d6"
set d6 "set g_gametype 2 ; map oasis ; set nextmap vstr d1"
vstr d1

As you can see Map names are given according to their .bsp format map names, one thing you need to make sure is that dont add the ".bsp" word beside it.. just add its map name. [Highlighted with yellow colour]

How are you going to know where the exact map name's bsp is located at?

Easy, just open a [AnyMap].pk3 from your own wolfet etmain folder, you will find inside it a folder called "maps"

(The following screenshot shows you that i am opening a Caen map file as an example)

[Image: 2VgI2oQ.png]

Open "maps" folder and then you will find [exactmapname].bsp

[Image: JAv3Nlw.png]

It is located on every single maps.. so i have to tell you that..if u want to write a map name in a MapCycle, it should follow the name that refers the Map name containing the .bsp format located in the maps folder otherwise it will never work.

~ Understanding It :-

set d1 "set g_gametype 2 ; map radar ; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "set g_gametype 2 ; map battery ; set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "set g_gametype 2 ; map goldrush ; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "set g_gametype 2 ; map railgun ; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "set g_gametype 2 ; map fueldump ; set nextmap vstr d6"
set d6 "set g_gametype 2 ; map oasis ; set nextmap vstr d1"
vstr d1

Setting up | Cycle Number | Map name | Loading what's next map | Apostrophe's & semicolon | Game Type (Default is 2) |

"vstr d1" is always placed at the end of the words to restart loading the first map again after all the maps are over

~ How to add a new map for the MapCycle ?

I will let u know how to do it, look carefully..

===================================
Again this is the current Mapcycle:-
===================================

set d1 "set g_gametype 2 ; map radar ; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "set g_gametype 2 ; map battery ; set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "set g_gametype 2 ; map goldrush ; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "set g_gametype 2 ; map railgun ; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "set g_gametype 2 ; map fueldump ; set nextmap vstr d6"
set d6 "set g_gametype 2 ; map oasis ; set nextmap vstr d1"
vstr d1

==================================================
After Adding 2 New Lines for 2 New Maps in the mapcycle it should look like this:-
==================================================

set d1 "set g_gametype 2 ; map radar ; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "set g_gametype 2 ; map battery ; set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "set g_gametype 2 ; map goldrush ; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "set g_gametype 2 ; map railgun ; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "set g_gametype 2 ; map fueldump ; set nextmap vstr d6"
set d6 "set g_gametype 2 ; map oasis ; set nextmap vstr d7"
set d7 "set g_gametype 2 ; map [mapname] ; set nextmap vstr d8"
set d8 "set g_gametype 2 ; map [mapname] ; set nextmap vstr d1"

vstr d1

---------------------------

Saw the changes? Now you have 8 maps in the mapcycle. After adding the lines..

If you dont like to add lines and want to replace the map with another one in the map cycle, simply just rename the map names and thats it..

Always Remember....
Whenever you do any changes towards the Mapcycle, you need to go through your rcon and do exec server.cfg so it should restart the server to occur the changes, as ive told recently, the server.cfg has an end containing the word exec mapcycle/modcycle/whatevercycle.cfg thats why when you execute the server.cfg through rcon the mapcycle also executes itself too.

~ How to add a cvar command/word to a Mapcycle ?

Suppose, when a map loads in a mapcycle and you want that particular map to load ONLY 8 Bots and its timelimit should be 10 Minutes Only, you need to add it in this way,

set d1 "set g_gametype 2 ; set g_userTimeLimit 10 ; bot maxbots 8 ; map radar ; set nextmap vstr d2"

Timelimit & Amount of Bots

You can also add another cvar if you want to, you just need to check your Server's MOD Documentation

~ Example of HeadShot's Mapcycle :-

I will share you my neat headshot mapcycle to make you understand perfectly how it works ..

set round10 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map purefrag_funv2 ;set nextmap vstr round11 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Training Pit"
set round11 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map TRAINING_PIT_01 ;set nextmap vstr round12 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Frag Maze"
set round12 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 20; map fragmaze_fixed ;set nextmap vstr round13 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Mountain Radio"
set round13 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map mountainradio_b1 ;set nextmap vstr round14 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: TWC FragZone"
set round14 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map twc_fragzone ;set nextmap vstr round15 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: FastFrag"
set round15 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map fastfrag_b3 ;set nextmap vstr round16 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Element"
set round16 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map element_b4_1 ;set nextmap vstr round17 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Western"
set round17 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map western ;set nextmap vstr round18 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Casino Run"
set round18 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map supply_desert ;set nextmap vstr round19 ;bot maxbots 12; set g_msg0 Next map: Sykotic DM"
set round19 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map sykoticdm1 ;set nextmap vstr round20 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Caen 4"
set round20 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map c_t_g ;set nextmap vstr round21 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Tournement DM"
set round21 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map tournementdm_fix ;set nextmap vstr round22 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: UJE Golden Dunk"
set round22 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map goldendunk ;set nextmap vstr round23 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: UJE Valley Escort"
set round23 "set g_gametype 2; set g_userTimeLimit 15; map bpaim4b2 ;set nextmap vstr round10 ;bot maxbots 8; set g_msg0 Next map: Purefrag"

vstr round10;

Compare this to HeadShot's Current Mapcycle that is posted on HS Section itself and see for yourself.

The ones that are coloured with RED are useless, just dont read it..

Sometimes, different words are used in different mapcycle for Cycle numbers like round00/d12/g16 .. It depends

You can make more space between them if you want to but make sure you dont forget to place semi colons and apostrophe's beside them !

You can also make your own mapcycle with a different [Name].cfg.. usually for events its more helpful

------------------------------------------------------------

Important Notice : If you are going to do big changes within the server, MSTS consultation is required and remember.. always backup the files,settings or configs to your computer before doing big/small changes to prevent loss or corruption towards the server.

------------------------------------------------------------

I hope my english is understandable for you, if you didnt understood anything please let me know so that i can sort it out asap !

@Supremes:-
SpoilerTo Other Server Supremes, If you have any idea or any tutorials to post for a different mod rather than jaymod, please take permission from the MSTs to have access to edit this thread and so on post what you know about server mapcycle for a different mod NEATLY . as far as ik, i posted about Jaymod so ye.

With that being said..

Thats All For Today's Lesson #3 Tut, Thanks For Reading & Understanding !
