Tut #2 | Server Configurations
#1
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note That The Following Things In This Thread Has Nothing To Do With High Admins Nor Members But Only For Understanding and Learning Purpose !
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this thread, I am going to show you what are the server configurations and how to use them..

This tutorial is mostly related with the JAYMOD settings/configurations ONLY.

Here We Start !
*************

First of all, most of the config files are located onto your FTP Server, so whenever you want to edit something that is related with the server settings like eg: changing the vote percentage or disabling double jump.. enabling thompson, adding password to the server or changing the server name etc. YOU need to login through your ftp and go through the config files and start editing each cvar(Console Variables/Commands) carefully inorder to make that particular function you want for your server to work

The main & the most important config file for the server is server.cfg

1. The server.cfg file or the config files :-

~ What is server.cfg ?

server.cfg is a config file that lies within the server's etmain folder which contains various of commands that activates the server's default/custom settings depending on what mod/style is it running, You can place commands or edit them to execute/change the server's specific options, When the server is launched, the first file will be executed is the server.cfg.

cvar(commands) example:-

/g_knifeonly 1 --> activates knifewar
/g_knifeonly 0 --> Disables knifewar
/g_knifeonly 0 //1 means enabling knife war ---> "//" double slash is written so that it is kept as a reminder and neither its a command nor it is getting activated but only used for putting sentence or warning purposes..

~ What does it do ?

Activates/Deactivates/Changes Server's whole settings/options through cvars(commands)

~ How to use it ?

You need to edit/add words in it which refers/related with the cvars(commands)

If you want to know how to add/edit or how to know how a cvar(command) works for each specific function, Click on the following mod name which is powered in your server to redirect you to a site containing full list of cvar(commands) & full information of that particular mod

- For JAYMOD
- For N!tmod
- For ETJump
- For ETNam

~ How do i execute the server.cfg / how to activate or get it working in my server ?

To execute it or activate it onto your server, you need to go through your RCON Client and type the following in the bar : "exec server.cfg"
[Image: l6AGF9Y.png]
after you've done that, your server is going to restart immediately and then reloads/activates the changes you've made inside the server.cfg

You can also do instant changes towards the server without editing the server.cfg by just entering a cvar in the rcon.

Note that everytime you do changes towards a .cfg file for a server especially the server.cfg, dont forget to execute it through rcon so that it should restart the server to get things activated and if you do changes in the .cfg file and you dont execute it, server will not change and it will stay the same, If you made a change in the server.cfg and executed it through rcon and after the server got restarted but the change u wanted to happen didnt actually happened means that you've done a mistake placing/editing the cvar(code/command) in the file, Sometimes some major changes like changing server name or its server address MIGHT not take affect after executing the server.cfg through rcon.. you may need to restart(reboot) the server completely to get it working with the help of the server control panel..

Becarefull.. try to avoid doing crappy changes before starting it, you dont want to crash your homeserver so dont corrupt anything within the config files unless you know what you are doing or just consult the MSTS or other supremes if you dont know how to do it..

~ How do i make my own .cfg file for a server ?

Lets say you are planning an event for your server called "No Explosions Event" and you want to disable all types of explosions like nades..molotove..riflegrenades..satchels etc, so for that you need to create a noexplosion.cfg file (Name it any type of name you want for the file) and then what you have to do next is placing cvar codes/commands in it for the specific functions/options to make changes inorder to get rid of explosive weapons.. for example adding this:-

//Weapon Enables & Disables

weapon_disable 4 // nade
weapon_disable 9 // pinapple nade
weapon_disable 30 // smoke bomb
weapon_disable 22 // airstrike
set team_maxLandMines "0" //landmines
set team_maxGrenLaunchers "0" // riflenades

------------------------------------------

If you want to also add a display banner for this event then add these codes for example:-

//Banners
set g_banner1 "^6Welcome to NO Explosions Event^1!"
set server_motd3 "^e| ^7Current Mod ^e|"
set server_motd4 "^e| ^6NO EXPLOSIONS ^e|"

------------------------------------------

After you finish placing codes and stuff, make sure & dont forget to place "exec modcycle.cfg" at the end or "exec mapcycle.cfg" it depends on what name is given to your mapcycle file which is located inside your Jaymod folder in the FTP so that your config file loads the settings you made along with the mapcycle itself..

------------------------------------------

After you finished doing everything to create your own noexplosions.cfg file for an event, Place the noexplosions.cfg to your JAYMOD/NITMOD/ETjump etc folder, NOT ETMAIN FOLDER & now start executing it through rcon by typing "exec noexplosions.cfg" and there you go, you have nades or explosive weapons disabled in your server, If you want to reset the server settings to default, go back to rcon again and type "exec server.cfg"

Note that everytime you make your own config file for the server, just place it in your MOD folder.. dont place it in the etmain.

------------------------------------------

If you are interested to know alot more about customizing server settings and stuff, please click on one of the MODs that is suitable for your choice and there you will find full information about cvar/making mod.. settings etc..

1. Understanding ModEnhConfig.xml :-

Now this file is located inside the Jaymod folder on the FTP, its a type of a config file with a .xml format, But what is inside this file is more complicated than the .cfg file.
If you dont know what .xml format does and means.. Click Here.
What is more special about this file is that it consist of enhancedmod config settings and it triggers the automatic promoting system when getting more XPs and also lets you to edit how many bullets you want for a class to have or what weapon will that particular class will have in his/her hands in the first place when he/she spawns and such type of other options that are given in this file.

You can replace/edit/remove/add anything according to its instructions given but ONE thing you need to know is that this is way different than .cfg file and you have to be much carefull editing it.. plus its a more easier to do it if you get used to it

Heres an example of my Pistol war event for HS, I used Modenhconfig.xml to remove all the weapons except pistols only. (You cannot completely remove weapons from .cfg by adding a cvar so thats why i used modenhconfig.xml to remove them completely and changing their amount of bullets in the gun)

Important Note: Once you made the changes in this file, make a backup of your normal modenhconfig.xml first and then replace it with the on you changed in the Jaymod folder itself, its impossible to execute a .xml file through rcon so what you have to do is you need to completely reboot the server from the server control panel if you are going for changing stuff in .xml file

Code:

------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing i have to remind you is that the server.cfg is ONLY kept in the etmain folder and it doesnt consist of ONLY cvar codes, it also consist of rcon password, server address, banners..passwords, authentication codes etc.. but what mostly is important to you is the ones i mentioned about cvar codes..

------------------------------------------------------------

Important Notice : If you are going to do big changes within the server, MSTS consultation is required and remember.. always backup the files,settings or configs to your computer before doing big/small changes to prevent loss or corruption towards the server.

------------------------------------------------------------

I hope my english is understandable for you, if you didnt understood anything please let me know so that i can sort it out asap !

There are more left to know about .so .db .log etc files but later on i will discuss it on the next lesson..however this tutorial is all about the main aspects for the server configuration, next lesson will be coming up soon.

@Supremes:-
SpoilerTo Other Server Supremes, If you have any idea or any tutorials to post for a different mod rather than jaymod, please take permission from the MSTs to have access to edit this thread and so on post what you know about server configuration in a different mod NEATLY . as far as ik, i posted about Jaymod so ye.

With that being said..

Thats All For Today's Lesson #2 Tut, Thanks For Reading & Understanding !
