Hey Mates,
You will find very useful clues in this post about
- SSD drives
- high ping solution with traffic shaping
- Windows update bug fix
I made the thread long for geeks (like u
), but highlighted the keywords, if you don't want to read all the details.
I did a system reset to restore point 3 weeks ago but it did not work, so I decided to buy an SSD drive to install Windows 7 on it. I didn't want to upgrade to Win 10, still not clear if it is a good decision.
The 250 GB Samsung SSD drive has been a damn good decision, as my system startup time dropped from previous 8-10 minutes (!!!) to 1 minute!! The Win7 basic install from DVD lasted only for 15 minutes!
During the install procedure of course Win7 update downlaodad the updates, ca. 30-40 - I even wondered how few updates might do it. Actually I did not notice that Windows update has not been working properly since the reinstall.
I had huge ping fluctuations during ET gaming: from a constant normal 48 up to 400-700
and I tried to figure out how to solve it. Earlier I used a network Internet traffic management tool called cFosSpeed, but its installation got corrupted each time and could not fix it with any offered bugfix. I think it was due to an ineligible Windows and driver update.
Anyway its a nice tool it worked for me earlier to keep ping constant low:

Then I realised the main problem that Windows Update stucks during searching for updates and never completes procedure. So this or the corrupted drivers might have caused other services/programs to access Internet and raising ping to enorm highs.
The solution: I didi a damn big search for Windows update bugfixes but none of them worked out well, neither any support softwares, nor any standalone security updates (KB....). Finally I tried a genious offline solution called WSUS Offline Update, which does a full system update in 2 steps: at first stating which updates shall be downloaded and downloades the ALL according the preferences (modules) you set in its settings. In the second step all downloaded updates are applied. The procedure lasted for ca. 3-4 hours with >20 system restarts but finally I had a fully working Win7 with Windows Update working smooth!!!
So from now it will run in the normal automatic way. Actually this tool replaces the corrupted Windows Update Agent until the system is reset to its normal state. Find this excelelnt tool here, it alos works for Windows 10 and several other Win versions!

Use this tool if you have this annoying Win Update bug instead of guessing in other ways.
