Solved Heavy (still) lagg server-side spikes (archived by Mimus)
#1
Hi,

I would like to ask how the status with the hardware issue reported few months ago (already). Its conencted ofc with unnormous high lagg spikes which pause the gameplay for few seconds each time and - ofc - are very annoying. Is any chance to contact the host directly and ask them about the continuous problem?

Last thing I've heard about this issue, is that it would be resolved this month (December).

Lig would work on it in November, he said it would have to be fixed.
I still often experience lag spikes on HS, regardless how many players are in the server.

Everytime I use the userlist a laggspike seems to appear, coincidence?

Hard disk fragmentation + crappy hardware probably

The lag mostly appears when the server must enter some big files like user.db, or the authentication script( but that does it only for some players not all tho)

I dont think its a HDD problem but a problem within the Virtual Machine software thats installed on the VPS, Cause i use VMware and dont have any lags so far and its even windows server 2008 r2.
I dont know if the Host is able to use VMware with linux systems.
I know that VMware is very stable to make VPS.

Only thing i want is that its going to be solved ASAP, cause its atm irritating me alot these lags. We lose guests cause of this lag.

The servers are running on an enterprise class server cluster at our hoster. The servers don't actually have hard drives, but access all files via network. The way ET uses the hard drive doesn't seem to play very well with those network drives.

New hardware will be ordered very soon (by next week).
I'm quite busy, so unless it's a quick thing or really urgent I am unlikely to be able to answer PMs throughout the week, but I try to reach out to everyone who contacted me during the weekends. If it's urgent, you can also contact any of the supremes, they can do a lot of things or relay directly to me if necessary.

hopefully seriously Smile cos many, especially new guests quit our server quickly after few "lag sprees" (like Chuck mentioned) and the crowdy server turns into deserted one in a blink of an eye.
