No Download Commands For Low Members (archived by iTim)
#11
I have to agree with Joris, lot of new members are joining, we don't know who it is. Also the new levelsystem has been make to put off abusive commands from lower level, beacuse a nowadays 13 level had earlier even a splat and mute. Just keep it like it is,

The popularity of NoDownload is so great now, we have to keep it up. 1 abuser can make sure, that NoDownload drops in popularity. I don't think you want that happen. But trust me on this, something is going to change in the levelsystem. We are already discussing this.

Joris

Ok that's understandable Thank you Joris for replying to this Smile I don't want NoDownloads popularity to drop. I'm looking forward to the change :P

still same situation? Tongue

why don't you just make it harder to become level 12 (member) and increase the number of commands a new member has? so have like a month try out (or longer) period so you can evaluate their skills before they actually wear the nametag "TWC"?
that way there is no possibility for abusive members to befoul the clan's name, or less anyway whilest giving the new members the opportunity and chance to prove themselves worthy of using commands after passing the Try Out. IF the tryouts do fuck up, they have the words TO behind their name meaning they're not really with us yet, thus upholding our clan's honour.

At the moment i don't think you're actually giving the new members to chance to prove themselves, and also making the clan look weak when they can't react to a certain person in the server ALTHOUGH he IS a member. I think every member should be respected with the dignity only these few and simple commands can demand. If someone is breaking the rules then atleast you can react rather than making the clan look like a fool because the violator can do anything he wants untill a high admin shows up.

just my humble opinion, peace out Smile

Simply we cannot afford to give "heavier" cmds to everyone who has just joined the clan. its way too risky, we were talkin about it many times and it should be clear long time ago. Imagine yourself as the clan leader (supreme, whoever) giving such commands to the guys who are in TWC since 1, 2 weeks. We had too many unpleasant situations in the past where newcomer (new member) started immediately to abuse their commands and level of such called administration felt rapidly down.
Anyways new level system proposed by Ligu should change a bit the whole cmd story, but don't expect new members will gain such commands just like that.

Do correct me if I'm wrong but if I understand well, and I'm partially in doubt, you'd check if they'd be abusive with commands before wearing the TWC clan tags? Wouldn't that be very confusing to visitors on the server as people who would seemingly not be in the clan use these commands? Moreover wouldn't that take away the credibility and "authority" image from someone wearing the clan tags? I like to think visitors on our servers are instictively a bit more humble as soon as a clan member of that server is online because they expect that person to have some authority and right to tell them when they're doing something wrong. Even if in comparison that clan member doesn't have commands by using your proposal a person might start to think "Meh, those clan member don't have more 'power' than this random guy anyway".

In the case that I'm wrong, and as I'm writing this I'm actually becoming more convinced that I am, I'd still like to add the following: A try out of a month without commands to see if they'd be befitting of "the member status with commands" won't give you any idea if they'd be abusive as soon as they do get them.

Peace out!

My opinion:
--------------------------------------------------------
I Think you should be a member for at least 3 moths.
After the 3 months there should be something like an application on the forum for requesting those commands.
The higher admins / leaders / supremes can decide if the member can be trusted with those commands yes or no.
But this is still a long going topic and an even longer discussion.
I'm sure they will make the right decission.

I agree with Kenny (as he said) ! But read all the posts and i'm waiting for the New system of levels ^^ !

(My opinion in the discussion :
-'abuse' with !mute... k. But I think the abuse of spammers, revilers, bad people are more annoying than an abuse of a low member of TWC. Especially that this member will be banned soon.
-'lot of new members are joining, we don't know who it is.' : i agree but 'a lot of new members', we are 39 low members, it's not an invasion ^^
-'Just keep it like it is' : Yes, no choice, but sometimes there is no fun, for us and for player who come to play on ND)

I cant of course say anything about whether someone of you guys deserves a higher lvl with certain commands or not, but let me explain a little:

- It seems like this new lvlsystem is going to happen (looking at current survey status), so there wont be as many lvls as in the current system. This makes it hard to have constant promotings, just because you can not climb but as high as before. However, it is more likely to, if you show you can handle it, reach a higher lvl faster than before.

- about that promotion-case depending on time in clan. We had/have this in the old system, and it works because you can get constant promotions without giving people who just are "in clan", but rarely play or get into clan stuff in any way like being active on forum, high commands not knowing how they will work with them. With the new lvlsystem and the less lvls, people can not be promoted just by time in clan. Other, more serious and objective reasons will be the main arguments, thus as activity, behaviour but also knowledge about rules and the way they enforce them.

- this leads me to another point: how to make people follow the rules. It might be that it was a lil easier at the time i was low-lvld, but I have been without commands for a long time - more or less, all the time before i became mst. Even without all these commands like mute, splat and kick i have been able to make people follow the rules, since most people tend to listen to you if you just talk to them. Ive unfotunately seen it many times that people, no matter which lvl they own, have an uncomfortable way of speaking. Im not talking about telling them calm to stop wj, sk or sth, but the fact that a lot of members do it in an "im.above.you"-style. I can understand, though ofc not like it, that people who do not follow the rules and maybe even just ddnt know them, get angry and fight back, with words or just by not listening to what they get told, because they feel attacked. In Germany we have a saying, "the tone makes the music". Its not jut important to use "polite words" - its even more important which undertone you got there.
In the end, if people just dont listen or ifits about someone who constantly does these things (like this korea-guy), there are more or less ALWAYS at least some people online who can help out. Server admins, Supremes and ofc AoC (at this point id like to remember the high-lvls in the server who can set pppl to do so with the AoCs).

Im sure you all can be able to enforce rules without needing the kick/splat/mute command, though it might make you a bit more confident.

Yes exactly. And you don't even have to !finger the person, because high admins can still see all the required infos in the !userlist, even if the player is not connected to the server.
