Planning to get new computer
#21
Xeon cpu is not only for servers. Xeon = i7 without gpu. But xeon is good if you are 24/7 player, but for you I'd recommend i5.
I'd use xeon in 1,2k€+ computer.

with mobo compatibilty issue, without support for sli/crossifire ( in the low/medium price range), without support for multiple displays , for OC.

this a load of difference to consider, especially if we talk bout gaming Tongue.

Xeon cpu are useless for gaming. xeon cpu's are made for little/medium business system and workstations. for homeuse or gaming you choose i5 or i7 (or amd equivalent) depending on budget.considering xeon and i5/i7 perform equally more or less (but a different price range) , better take a cpu with an inboard gaming graphic imo that don't have compatibilty issues with mobo, oc , sli/crossfire,supporting multiple displays (xeon cpu's have these issues. and thats why they are considered server cpus, even from intel ..) Tongue. plus for the same price, you get a cpu that is from 200 to 600 mhz more faster Tongue

Go for the i5 4690 for 200 euros, perfectly fits you Tongue

Just no, for that budget you get the i7 5820 or the i7 4790, that destroy the equivalent xeon cpu's, unless obv you're planning to use it as workstation or server system.

Xeon are mostly used for servers they have lower clock speed and higher number of cores sadly for you games do not require high number of cores in other words you are throwing money away .

As suggested get i5 or i7 what ever your budget can handle (Not K version),
If you are interested in over clocking i would change the board.

The recommended psu for 770 (by nvidia) is 600w i would keep that in mind .
And if you are not rendering 16gb ram is overkill .

Other than that your build is great.

luckly doesn't mean much since my 760 it says it requires a 500w psu, but in the end max it uses its 170w, for the 770 its around 190w, a bit more if you make torture test over it, and you aren't makeing them Tongue

plus consider that the psu he has in the rig, can be overpower to 600w.

only reason to consider a bigger psu, is the case in the future he wanna make a sli ( double nvidia graphic card), otherway it isn't needed at all.

Skip this part if you are not planning of using a double graphic card config ( even in the future).

Spoiler
About the sli, i have to point out that the motherboard you have in the rig DOESN'T support sli ( double nvidia graphic cards), so i would change it with another one. even tho basically all motherboards with h87 chipset support a second gpu, but with a very lower speed (basically even if you have a second gpu, you kill it with your motherboard) . only the Z chipset help with that.

keeping that in mind, i would drop the cooler ( stock cooler is pretty good, especially if you won't overclock) , and get a different mobo and a psu with a higher wattage , but yeah that just my opinion.

and yeah blade is right, 16 gb ram are way a overkill.

still i would wait a month or so.. the upcoming gtx 970 seems like a cool monster with a kind of low price, interesting.

So could someone make me a rig, closely based on the original that I posted, if it seemed fine? Just replace some items to others. And a little explanation why. I dont understand your computer language much, so treat me like a newbie. Simple.

About that GTX 970, what really is the difference and how much does it cost?

The 970 is superior and has more features to offer than the 770 ,
Here are some benchmarks :

Nvidia official new features list :

If you are impatient i would recommend 780ti if its in your budget if not stick to the 770 i have no idea hows the prices are where you live tho .

Just replace the cpu with the one you think suits the budget best , i5 or i7 with out k after their model number will do .
Xeon has a set of features a gamer doesn't need that why it has no use for you .
Stay with the 8gb ram if you are not doing a lot of rendering, you could invest the money somewhere else.

gtx 970 and 980 are the new gpu from nvidia.

while the 980 is a step above the 780ti, the 970 its just few fps under the 780ti for just a little more than 300 euros. it will be interesing when they comes out which gpu's will drop in prices, becouse 100% it will happen, and quiet soon i guess.

i would change the xeon cpu for a I5 4690 , dropping the the cooler, and get the msi z87 g-45. just IMO.

I was wondering, could it be possible they chose me the xeon cpu for editing and stuff? I need Adobe programs to work fine on that computer. Or what does the term "server work" really keep inside?

Yes its safe to say that they choose the xeon cpu for your editing ,
But i assume you are a casual user not a power user the software will run fine on i5/i7 (speaking from experience) .
Again if you do a lot of rendering that includes 3d and video rendering i would get get the xeon if not stick to the i5/i7 .

for choosing the xeon cpu they assumed you will make an heavy using of editing and rendering. and for being honest, if you will do that , you should choose 100% amd cpu not intel one.
