General "Offensive" language (archived by Chris)

Et hardly compares to the blood and gore in more of todays FPS games. You really want to compare ET to COD? Well once you do, then you will soon realize that ET doesn't even come close to the violence, gore and language of some of those other games. Then you will realize that ET would be a much better game for ones children to play.

ET focuses more on team play and working together to accomplish a goal far more than it does on blood and guts and shock factors.

Can anyone of you tell me why you have a need to type swear? Does it make you feel more mature? Does it make you feel as if your impressing the other players just because you can spell swear words in game? How many of you are actually using these words out loud when you get killed? Loud enough so that your parents may hear you I mean. Not many I am sure.

Hey many of us here in TWC were your age once. Heck even I can remember how fun it was to repeat f**k after the first time an older kid said it. I felt like a big kid, at least till I went home and repeated in front of my parents. Let me tell you, soap back then really tasted bad.

The point is, if you want to use the new words your learning in other servers that is fine, but try to impress the people in those other servers with your newly expanded vocabulary, because you won't be doing it here until you can come up with a good excuse why you need to use them.

Oh and I was the one who received the angry PM from the upset father. I had Joint install the automute. It wasn't quite the way it was quoted here but it had the same effect. Losing one guest who behaved well and could die without profanity is worse than gaining 10 guests who can type swear words any day.

I would have to agree with the above. If something happens and you swear well then that's down to the individual, but if you feel the need to "type" it then that's a conscious decision. My monitor has taken much abuse over the years and I have never felt compelled to type it.

Type swearing is unnecessary and if you really feel the need to swear or cry out nubber every time you die then you take this game far too seriously. Man up, take the death and get 'em next time Smile

As for replacing the mute with the censor, why? As someone pointed out the brain guesses, but, without punishment then players won't learn that such language isn't acceptable.

And let's face it if you get auto'd then you knew it was coming and wasn't a surprise if you play the server. And if you're new to the server then you learn what is expected from you if you choose to play on the server in the future.

As for general abuse/trolling I am sure you guys have rules for this and is a separate issue all together.

I think the the mute is ok, but should be disabled for some words for example "f.u" (how can it be offensive?? It's just two letters!) or "sucks"

"Sucks" (or "suck") is an offensive word imo...
If someone says: "you suck" - it might be meant as a joke, but those words can hurt people..!

But about the word "f.u" or "fuu".. whatever... maybe even "fuuuuuuu"..
It's not really a bad word, I sometimes type it in frustration..
I'm not even sure about that.. maybe the best thing is just to leave it in the auto-mute list ;p

But if someone (for example) tries: !kick f.u - will the kicker be muted? :0

Everyone has their own standards fu is short for some harmful words, we all know that. There is no need to write those hits down in the chat. It's not going to make you play better as you did before right?

I get very frustrated when i see people swearing for no reason. Same for calling someone noob, it might be just a word for you, but it can be harmful for others. Keep in mind that this is a multiplayer game!!

Just revise the list, it's a bit too strict sometimes

One more thing: most ppl on the server will swear even with the automute, they just avoid it using dots or space between the letters... and when they do, they are never muted by admins... so what's the point? I think that a more intelligent approach would be to keep the automute just for the really offensive words and let the admin warn the players when they are using offensive language... and if they keep doing it, then they would be muted.

I'm sure that the players would stop using offensive language this way, because an admin warned them, not a machine.

P.S. !mute and !unmute should be lowered to lvl 14-15 imho... i know almost all ND members now and i don't think they would be abusing it (Slake excluded xD)

imo the automute is necessary, if you consider that there are not many admins on the server most of the time it helps to sort out and mute people who try to disrespect or insult other people. If the day comes where there are many admins on the server who take care of such things, the automute could be soften in a certain way.

But for now it's the best solution I guess.

A kid was playing and someone said "f**k" and later I got a PM from him saying it was his parents, and he would never be playing here again because of bad language. I told the parents it would never happen again. That is why such words as piss, sh*t, f*ck, idiot, stupid, and etc. are filtered. It's for the younger users.

Wasn't that mayhems story or did it happen to you as well? Tongue
