Every day I see players who can’t stop whining. They keep whining about how the situation was unfair because of connection problems, low end PC, broken mouse, 2 or more opponents at a time against them, opponents camping, opponents healing themselves or using “noob” weapons. That steals the fun from everyone, games are played to have fun. So here are two major points on how to become a better player, loose the reason to whine ever again and most important have fun.
Keep in mind that it is only my opinion and i don't consider myself an outstanding player. However if you think about it, it all makes sense.
1. Drop your ego
I’m damn sure that none of us here is the best player in ET history. There’s always someone better than you. If someone is better than you admit it. We are not in this clan to beat each other, we are friends, we are family. If you can leave your ego behind, I guarantee you will have better time playing this game. Stop busting your nuts if someone kills you, instead think what did you do wrong and try to avoid doing that again.
2. Quit finding excuses
That’s the main reason people can’t improve. Finding excuses doesn’t make you better in any way, it just makes you mad. Instead of finding excuses think about what YOU are doing wrong, how can YOU avoid situations you don’t like.
Hardware problems
You have a low end computer and can’t afford to buy a new one? Then don’t think about that. Try to figure out how you can be the best you can be with low fps. Maybe play a different class, don’t be so offensive etc. You want a 120hz monitor but can’t afford it? So do I, but I try to get the best out of a 60hz monitor. If you have connection problems you don’t have to yell it in the main chat. Everyone can see your ping. If it’s really impossible to play just don't while you are lagging. But as I said, play this game for fun. If you can’t do anything about your connection try to have the most fun you can have with it. Always make the best out of what you have, don’t worry about what you don’t have.
In-game “unfair” situations
These must be the lamest excuses one can find. Play the game considering how it was made. There’s nothing wrong if someone uses panzerfaust, heals himself running away or camps behind a wall waiting to tear you apart. These are all features of the game, learn how to deal with them. I hate the most when people whine whenever 2 or more opponents attack them at the same time. Enemy Territory is a team game, it is supposed to be like that. ETpro war tactics are based on getting all the players perform a perfect crossfire to defend the objects. It’s obvious that you can’t win against several opponents alone (most of the times), so instead of whining avoid situations like that. On public servers always face one opponent at time, if there’s 2 hide behind a box or something so that you are out of second players range. After killing the first one move on to second one. Also don’t run into enemies base and avoid the main routes to their spawns. Stop making excuses and think how you can avoid situations you don’t prefer.
This was really general information, but it seems to be a huge problem in TWC and is one of the main reasons why our reputation is getting worse. This is not about all players, there are a lot of gentlemen amongst us. I hope this helps some of you in some way.
Those who were hoping for some specific information to get a nice amount of frags, here’s a really good video tutorial for you that says about everything needed. The video is about getting higher ratings in trackbase, but the way to do it is of course fragging effectively. If you don’t care about playing for rating skip the first video to 5:50.
