Solved Upgrading to 2.60b (archived by Mimus)

Ok I moved from playing off my laptop to my desktop (better specs).
But when I upgrade to 2.60b on the desktop, I get a constant lag, even in the main menu. I used the same method to upgrade my laptop ET, and it works perfectly.

Please help.

My operating system is Windows XP.

XP came out 2001 and ET 2003 and the next "consumer" windows was Vista which was released in 2007, so can't blame XP I used to play with XP without any problems. Do you use similar antivirus etc programs in your desktop computer as in laptop? And do you use the same configs as before?

I'd start solving the problem by installing a fresh ET and patching from the beginning. Then try the game without any config files. If the game works fine, then the configs are to blame.

If it is still lagging then you would probably want to check all the rights of ET (if you run the game as an administrator in you laptop etc).

Punkbuster can be a bit annoying even though TWC server(s) doesn't run it. ET (if I remember correct) loads it automatically at the startup, atleast some of the services can be running in the background. Quick way to check the communication between PB services and if the firewall etc. is blocking it is to run the pbsvc.exe located in your PB folder (in Enemy Territory folder).
