The sixth of June...
#1
Today is eighth of June, but it doesn't matter, what day is it. We should have in mind this action forever.

"The landing in Normandy, operation Neptune, initial phase of operation Overlord."

Firstly, Omaha beach was has been covered with about 9000 bombs. The bombs were dropped of course by Allies - our heros.

Axis were very suprised and did not expect that. The sun was shining. Getting up. New day was coming. This sun was help for 4000 lil' boats, who were drived by Allies soldiers. A brave soldiers with Thomsons and ammunition to Thommy.

10 hours. 10 hours of shooting. All soldiers - axis and allies had to survive a rain of bullets for 10 hours.

The first soldiers appeared on Omaha at 05:30. They had to destroy all things which can make out of order boats. Then new soldiers were coming. A Charlie, Dog and Fox companies.

That was incredibly hard to take a beach. You know - they could not throw a can with flare like a field ops in W:ET. Of course they could use artillery. But weather (rain, heavy wind) and axis PAK's didn't let them call an artillery.

After 10 hours then Allies finally got the Omaha beach.

People were very happy about it. Soldiers, they wifes, children were cheering - they won battle, but they did not win war.

But some of the people were happy too. But they were also curious - how did they did it?

Some of the people are telling, that engineers sneaked under rain of the bullets and planted dynamite, under the big wall, which allies could not cross.

Some of the people are saying, that 1st explanation is good, but there was also one, mysterios sniper, who killed a axis soldier, shooting to alllies by MG42.

Finally they killed all axis on the beach, destroyed all PAK's, cleared all bunkers.

Then new operations were coming (Deadstick - paratroopers landing, then Mallard, Tonga etc.). After that nightmare, there was fine suprise.

A big help for our soldiers. 32 floating at the sea Shermans were discovered. But, you see, only 4 survived.

This operation was very important to us. Omaha beach was the point of supplies for our soldiers. If the axis would take this beach again, I don't want to think how many horrible things will happen.

That's all. Thanks for reading. Please, have in mind, that about 12000 Allies died in this operation. Here is some photos, as always Smile

WARNING some of the photos can contain. uhm, you know. Dead bodies, blood. So if you don't like it, you have been warned.

Hey Duka, you did good job with the selection above, thanx.

Led, no need of spamming Duka's thread, he did work and research in it.

Let me add a section from the move "The Longest Day" (1962) here, showing the moment when the German watchers take view of the Allied Armada first time.

I would recommend those interested in WW2 stuff (I suppose I am not alone with my interest here Smile ) the older WW2 movies from the 1960-1970s. Sometimes they may look a bit oldfashioned, though they are very authentic. Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and Call of Duty games mostly took scenes and graphics, screenlay ideas from those movies. Let me suggest some beyond this one:

Battle of the Bulge
Where Eagles Dare
A Bridge Too Far
Patton
Kelly's Heroes (+fun)
The Dirty Dozen (+fun)
Cross of Iron
The Eagle Has Landed

Seriously guys, why only Butch appreciates my work?

These films must be very interesting. I will watch it but firstly, I have to grow up! :P

I will love forever "Saving private Ryan". This film is very heart-breaking. When you are watching it - you see couple of soldiers. You think "Oh, this soldier is nice!" BANG he has no head. And something crack in your heart.

If I will have to choose class (enginner, sniper, soldier etc.), I wouldn't choose sniper. Why?

This why - You are sniping, shooting to Axis, nobody sees you. Then somebody is shouting in german "LOOK, A SNIPER!". Tank is coming, measuring at you. And then your friends fighting too, don't see you - they see, that the tower, where have you been is destroyed and everywhere is your "meat". That's sad...

Yes, sorry for 'spamming' earlier
Just wanted to say, great summary!
I just finished a history essay and the theme was almost the same as here: gruesome...
I don't generally know much about wars, but this really gave me a good picture of it
