How do you create mapcyles and what to look out for.
You would need a text editor, i recommend Notepad++. You can download it here: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/
We also need the desired maps, which you can download here, for example: https://wolfdb.de/filebase.php
For this tutorial i am using 4 maps (3 standard maps and braundorf b4).
To get the correct map name, which we enter in a cycle and make a cycle executable, we proceed as follows:
1# Download the map of your choice and open the zip file, then the .pk3
![[Image: tq7fhqru.png]](https://s20.directupload.net/images/210409/tq7fhqru.png)
2# Open the file maps and copy the name of the .bsp file
![[Image: tdhl9an8.png]](https://s18.directupload.net/images/210409/tdhl9an8.png)
3# The standard maps are already integrated in ET and do not have to be downloaded. The .bsp names of the standard maps would be: oasis, battery, goldrush, radar, railgun and fueldump
Now we can start and open Notepad++ for it.
Objective cycle:
Hint:
Which letter you use to load a map is irrelevant. Make sure that you address the next map correctly in the nextmap command set nextmap vstr d2.
With vstr (string) we execute the next variable, i.e. the next map d2.
com_watchdog_cmd gives the command to execute the variable d1 again in the event of a loading error of a map (or of the entire cycle).
vstr d1, at the end of the cycle gives the command to start the rotation from the beginning, i.e. the variable d1.
Stopwatch cycle:
Hint:
In this cycle, 2 rounds are defined for a map. This is obtained with the map_restart command.
The variable m1r1 (map 1, round 1) can be renamed as desired, but make sure to execute the correct string again at the end (e.g. vstr m1r2).
Last Man Standing cycle:
Hint:
This cycle is structured identically to an objective cycle. The only difference is the gametype, in this case g_gametype 5.
Campaign cycle:
Hint:
The differences to a stopwatch cycle are the gametype (g_gametype 4) and instead of nextmap, use nextcampaign.
In this example, the first campaign is north africa and it starts with the map oasis.
Map Voting cycle:
Hint:
This cycle is structured identically to an objective cycle or an last man standing cycle. The only difference is the gametype, in this case g_gametype 6.
So that these maps are also available for voting at the end of a map (during intermission), the selectable number of maps must be defined in the following cvar: g_maxMapsVotedFor ""
Save the cycle as a .cfg file and put it into etmain.
General hints:
# With the watchdog command com_watchdog_cmd it is also possible to address other cycles, e.g.: set com_watchdog_cmd "exec stopwatchcycle.cfg ; say watchdog found no map running - restarted mapcycle".
# It is also possible to define the gametype in the server.cfg, but i recommend doing it in the respective cycle. To do this, comment out the line set g_gametype in the server.cfg with // or delete it completely.
# To get a map cycle to run you have to set the following cvar at the end of the server.cfg: exec objectivecycle.cfg (or how you called it)
# It is irrelevant how you name your map cycle, just make sure that it is a .cfg file and that you enter the correct name in server.cfg. Save your cycle quite simply like this: lmscycle.cfg (don't forget to put .cfg after the name of your cycle when saving).
# In a stopwatch cycle it is possible to define several rounds. To do this, just add another line: set m1r3 "map_restart 0; set nextmap vstr m2r1; sets StopwatchRound 2;". Make sure that you address the nextmap correctly.
# Be sure that you enter the .bsp file name in your cycle, otherwise the cycle will remain "forever" with the last executable map and the next one (with the wrong .bsp name) will not be loaded.
