Is there anyone out there who still plays ET with default settings? It's so much more interesting and just the way the inventors of the game wanted it to be. Why do people have to destroy any notion of fairness? Just because they want to have an advantage and thereby be better than others? It must be so damn hard to play a fair game with the same conditions for everyone.

Regarding default config :

If game creator added the console ingame and if they allow you to type commands in there. They meant to allow some tweaking.

Fairness ?

Game will never be fair, some people have better internet connection than others, some have better PC than others.

Some are simply more skilled than others.

Using a config or change some ingame parameters is just a matter willness. Don't blame fairness when you are just lazy.

It takes a 10sec to download a config, a minute to add your own binds in there and 3s to execute it ingame.

But yeah deleting trees and foliage is a different story though as you need an external software to obtain such modifications.

I'm playing with default config I added only some binds for name changing. I have more fun if I win with some players with "good" config

I play with normal settings no cfgs nothing to enhance my sloppy aim I play with only a sniper rifle mostly thats what I learn on ET then some people said I had scripts xD I was jumping around nailing headshots in mid air most of the time I was failing too even get a kill fun times this was when I was in HS 2016 -FrOsTeDTaCoZ Aka TY.

I'm not sure if when they created the console the inventors of ET had all those commands in mind that are out there today, might be wrong though.

Problems like internet connection or computer are beyond the game, you can't really do something about it. I also don't think the most expensive gaming computer will give you thaaat much of an advantage in a game like ET. I've always played on a crappy laptop and I've never been so bad at this game if I may say that. And about skill, THAT is exactly what the fairness is about. If everyone plays more or less with the same conditions, being good at the game is much more valuable than in game where everyone plays with tweaks, cheats etc. It's the same like in every other competition. Take for example sports, doping has ruined many kinds of sport because it brought the conditions out of balance.

I know what I describe is a dreamworld, a naive fancy, but I personally always like those competitions best where everyone has the same conditions. I can't enjoying winning when I know other people didn't have the same opportunities.

Like Nirv said, if you want to go a head and download a config and put in different settings to help you get a better gameplay, then what’s the problem. But if you want to play with the same settings as default and not download a config or try to help your gaming styles then it’s your own fault, right?

You think developers create a game and they are not aware of the possibilities out there ?
They didn’t only create ET, there was RTCW before and you were also able to type things in the console.

It’s not a problem « beyond » the game.
You don’t need a gaming PC. But you might want have stable FPS (preferably around 125)
Try to play with 30 unstable fps on radar or goldrush and you will instantly know what I mean.
Unless everybody is on a LAN with the same PC specification, it will never be fair.

You can see it in the other way around. If you are willing, you can open console and tweak or use a config, just like anybody else.
And there are many guides on the web, even in our forum.
Therefore the chances regarding tweaking are the same for everyone.
