General The TWC Veteran Movement (archived by NightFall)
#1
To: All TWC Members!

“Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.”
(General Douglas MacArthur)

I've been a TWC member for years.
I've made buddies on almost every server.
I saw great changes and great achievements.
I saw members come and go.
I am part of TWC and its History.
I am a TWC Veteran.

I guess these are the sentences TWC members now categorized as "Clan Friends" are able to say. Being a "Clan Friend" in my opinion is justified if you've shown your support to the clan, but weren't in any way a member of TWC. I reckon that people who've been members for years (either on one or multiple servers) and have helped to build this community by recruiting others, keeping the peace ingame, contributing to the development, keeping up the good mood, solving disputes or in any other form deserve more than just a "Clan Friend" rank ingame and on forums.
I as a TWC Vietnam Veteran myself believe that many others share my thoughts on the matter.
I hereby suggest to add the "Veteran" rank on forums and ingame to honor those who are worth it. Some of us still actively visit forums, or join the game from time to time, and it saddens me to see the "Clan Friend" / "Guest" rank when we've been a part of this community for so long as Recruiters, Admins even High Admins. I reckon it'd be fair to make a difference between Veterans and Clan friends, that's why I decided to stand up for our rights to be considered part of TWC even after we "retire from the game" or "go MIA".

I treid to keep it short, thank you for your time!
There's a poll you can fill out and contribute to the matter.

Honor to those who've earned it!

As much as I understand your longing for a usergroup title that, in your eyes, honours the time you have spent in twc in a better way than being "just a clan friend" and as much as you seem to like military-related stuff, I do not agree with it.

There are several reasons for it, one of them being that more usergroups mean again a more complicated and complex system. Even nowadays people sometimes have problems to decide if someone should be set and referred to as registered, guest or clanfriend (unless its a member ofc). But thats just a minor thing.

The main reason I prefer Clan Friend over Veteran is the definition of the words as I know it. A Veteran is someone who served for a certain amount of time in some kind of group (usually military related stuff, army etc.). So, by definition everyone who leaves the clan is a veteran and therefore could or even should be set veteran. Whereas a clan friend is actually a friend. Not only someone we spent time with in the same group (as you can do with a veteran) but someone you have shared so many good and bad experiences with and know him good enough to call him a friend, even if you do not belong to one group anymore - youre still in each others hearts (to phrase it like that).

If I imagine being new to this forum and seeing someone with the veteran rank - yes, i would assume he was in twc once. But it does not tell me anything about whether he was kicked out/ went inactive / was only in clan for a few weeks or if he used to be known and well liked (aka. a friend) in and for the people of the clan.

Sure we could differentiate even more and make a Veteran rank aswell as some kind of...Liked Veteran rank. But then we can also start making "Kicked out" ranks and differentiate these in "Inactive kickout" and "Bad behaviour kickout"...yknow what I mean?

The Clan Friend rank is, by statistics, more used for ex clan members than it is used for actual well-liked guests. Of the about 250 Clan Friends we have only about...5 people who have not been a member before (coco, saphire, wolf, shaun, mystik etc. from ea). Maybe there are one or two others, but definitely not a lot. Its a very very tiny amount of "non-ex-member-clan-friends".

tl;dr: Friends = actual friend whereas veteran = just someone you were in a group with, therefore to honour ex-members "Clan Friend" is the better choice.

imo.

I have to agree with Mimus on this one, it's really just one other useless group created with no difference from the other already existing one. If you wish you can set a custom user title to show off your membership, and lastly to create a new level in-game falls into the category mentioned above.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle. Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.”
