What's Duelyst?

Basically speaking - a card+board game that got funded on Kickstarter. If you're a fan of both Hearthstone and Final Fantasy/chess, this game will be perfect for you. There's much less RNG involved than in Hearthstone too, so it's much more competitive.

You have access to 6 factions - Lyonar (kind of Priest/Paladin combo if you're a HS player), Songhai (Mage/Rogue), Vetruvian (no similarities here), Magmar (Warrior), Abyssian (Warlock) and Vanar (not many similarities either). All of them have access to this type of cards: minions, spells, artifacts (kind of weapons, but with variety of effects) and generals. For now each faction has 2 generals and they have different abilities called Bloodborn Spells, which are similar to HS hero powers. However, they're usable every 2nd turn (every turn in late game) and cost only 1 mana.




You play on a 5x8 board and start with your 25 HP general on middle right/left. You mulligan 5 card, 2 of which can be replaced. Then you play cards and draw one at the end of the turn (max 6 in hand), you can also replace one each turn. Your goal is of course reducing other general's HP below 1.

There are many interesting minion abilities, such as Ranged (can hit a character on any tile), Blast (can hit all targets in a straight line), Backstab (takes no damage if you attack from behind), Zeal (gains bonuses if nearby your general) or Infiltrate (gains bonuses if on your opponent's side of board). They make your positioning matter quite much, e.g. to play around Frenzy (hitting every nearby opponent), you need to place minions diagonally in some matchups.
