Forum back, shoutbox disabled. (archived by John)

Hi,

as you might have noticed the forum is back online.

It was taken down because the shoutbox caused a very high server load, so the hoster disabled the account, because we're running in a shared hosting environment and our forum used too many of the shared resources.

So, until further notice the shoutbox will remain disabled. We are actively looking for a replacement to offer a similar experience.

Any way guys. We are sorry for the inconvenience you have gone through the last couple of days and hope it never happens again.

The forum is our life line and you just never really realize that till it goes off.

Update: Lig and I are discussing ways to resolve the issue at hand. If it is not possible to have a shout box with this host, we will look into a host with a greater cpu allowance.

We of course hope to stay with hostgator though for obvious reasons, so Lig is checking into ways of possibly removing plugins that use a lot of cpu, such as the ' a new reply was posted while you were typing' one and if there are any others that use unwanted cpu.

Another option we have discussed involves putting the forum on our personal machine. The one the servers are on. This will allow us much cpu, but with that comes the problem that if the machine and servers go down, so does the forum. That leaves us no way to let you know what is happening. So along with that there is a possibility that we could keep the host gator as a back up while having the forum on our machine, which of course is something Lig would need to figure out how to do, but he says anything is possible.

Just wanted you guys to know that steps are being taken. We all know how much you like the shout box, my self included these past few days, and are looking into many ways to make it happen.

Updating the Updated Update.

Lig has been told by the host gator tech support that shout box's are not allowed on the Shared or Reseller servers. Ours it seems is shared.

So he is looking into renting another, but smaller, machine like the one our servers are run on. It will be our own machine so we can put what we want on it. Lig is thinking of adding the cpanel to it as well.

All this will take place at the beginning of next month (May), so all you shouter's out there, have faith we will be continuing our conversations shortly

That's for another CMS, and if I read correctly Mayhem's post, our host doesn't allow any shotbox scripts at all.
