Basics of Trickjumping
#1
What is Trickjumping?
Well, the word trickjumping can be divided into trick and jumping. This means that trickjumping is a way to get to places normally impossible to do.

What forms of trickjumping are there?
There are numerous forms of trickjumping. The two broad ones are:-
Original Trickjumping
--> Trickjumping in original ET Maps , fe- fuel dump.
Gamma Trickjumping
--> Trickjumping from pad to pad.

Where can I trick jump?
Usually there are different servers dedicated to Trickjumping; however you can use your skills of trickjumping to your benefits while playing on pubs too.
(Warning:- Some servers do not allow trickjumping, and will punish you for that)

You just mentioned benefits.. What are these benefits?
Knowing how to trickjump can help you in numerous ways:-
a) It helps you to move faster. Thus you can get to the objective faster.
b) Knowing some trickjumps in original maps, can help you bypass defense and plant dynamites/landmines etc. ( remember some servers do not allow this)
c) Helps you camp Biggrin. Getting to places not normally possible , could make it harder for enemies to kill you. FE- The ammo hut in fuel dump is a popular sniping spot which can not be reached normally ( single jump ).

Hmm sounds interesting.. How can I trickjump?
Before you read about how to trickjump you should first know what forms of trickjumping are there. I know it is mentioned before but now, it is in a more detailed sense.

Full Beat
This style is also known as 'strafe'. It is also referred to as 'fb'. It is useful for jumps that require low-medium speeds. Once you reach higher speeds it is not recommended to continue full beat as it requires a lot of mouse movement and the chances of loosing speeds in the transition is high.

Half Beat
This style is referred by some as 'hb'. It is recommended as the best form of trickjumping. It does involve medium amount of mouse movement , but it is helpful for all types of speeds. (low-medium-high-out of the world)

Invert
This style takes extreme amount of practice in order to perfect and do properly. It is highly recommended for very high to out-of-the-world speeds. At lower speeds it requires a lot of mouse movement, but as the speed gradually increases the mouse movement declines. (Mind you, it declines not stops)

Wall-Jump
This is when a player jumps with the help of the wall. Some jumps can be completed only with this method. It requires very little mouse movement. It is considered very low leveled.

No-beat
This is an extreme trick and is only used for small jumps. It requires magnificent amount of mouse movement.

Freestlyle
This is a mix of all forms of trickjumping, usually performed by high skilled trickjumpers to showoff.

Backward Styles
Backward styles are the same for the above except they are performed facing backwards.

These are the main forms of trickjumping. However an individual may create new styles.

Ok,Ok I get it! Teach me how to trickjump already!
Well, the most important part of trickjumping is the start. If you do not have a good start you will not be able to perform most jumps. The recommended start position is in the form of a 'question mark'. (see figure 1) While following the question mark you should press the forward left key ( W+A if you have default controls ). As soon as you are at the edge of the pad, press the jump key. At this moment you should be moving your mouse to the left too. This is the trickiest part for beginners. Once you can do a good start, it gets easy. Now you will be in mid-air and approaching the next pad. As soon you touch the next pad, press the jump key again. Remember if you walk on the pad, you speed returns to normal. If you jump as soon as you touch it, your speed will increase. Once you have jumped from the pad, turn your mouse to the right and simultaneously press the forward right key ( W+D if you have default controls ). Repeat these steps to gain more and more speed. Always remember, jump as soon as you touch the pad. This method involving the forward left and forward right keys is called full beat.
The only difference in the different forms of trickjumping are the keys pressed.

Full beat--> Forward left and forward right
Half beat--> Forward left and right OR forward right and left.
Invert--> left and right
Wall jump--> Depends on what side the wall is. usually forward left OR forward right
No beat--> Forward
Freestyle--> Mixed
Backwards--> Backward keys are pressed instead of the forward keys.

So far, you have read about the keys to press and the way to perform a quality start. Now, you will read about the amount of mouse movement required.

For beginners, C_gaz is recommend. C_gaz is a display tool that helps you get the correct angle of mouse movement. There are 4 types of C_gaz. The most used and helpful is the 2nd one. However it depends on the user. To enable c_gaz, one would do :-
"escape>trickjump>view>draw C_gaz"
This tutorial discusses about C_gaz 2 . Once you have enabled C_gaz 2, you will see red lines and blue lines in the middle of your screen. The red lines are controlled by your mouse. The blue lines are controlled by your keyboard. To gain maximum speed you will have to align the two together. (see figure 2) That is basically all about mouse movement. Remember pressing different keys leads to different positions of the blue line.

So far, you know what keys to press, when to jump, how to start, and how much to move your mouse. Great! You now basically know everything about how to TJ!

Cool! Thanks I'm off to TJ now! Cya!
But wait! there is more! Tongue

There are different types of pads in TJ :-

a) Ice/Slide:- Here, do not jump as soon as you touch the pad, rather let the player slide down/up it and then when you are near the end, jump.
b) Ramps:- Here jump as soon as you are at the foot of the ramp. Some ramps require you to not jump. The only way to figure out is to try it.
c) There are some places where you cannot get in. (the part above the ladder in figure 3) Here what you need to do is to press the back key, crouch and turn your mouse 180 degrees simultaneously. (result in figure 4)

Now, Some things to remember while TJing:-
a) The keys to press are equally important to how you move your mouse!
b) Always save before the start of a jump. This way, if you die, you may return back to the start position. You may save by typing '/save' or you make set keys for save by:-
"escape>trickjump>settings>save and load"
To get back to the start position you may '/load' or press the key you set for 'load'.

Some good maps for beginners
a) Mr.Men Final
b) Gamma land
c) Gamma mill
d) Ikki Gammas
e) Make-me-jump
f) Piyo Fun Jumps r2

Finally, never give up! It may happen that there are always hard maps , and you may feel like giving up! DON'T!! Spectate the players and learn from them. Never be shy to ask. Take demos and review them as to where you went wrong.
Lastly, Always practice! It is the best way to be good at anything.

Thank you for reading this tutorial. For any queries or suggestions feel free to send me a PM or xfire me at : 'teleport1337' .

All the best and Godspeed! Smile
