Hey guys, a random question:

Are there more people actively playing from the TWC community? Are there possibly still people of you who are interested in a few rounds together on the TWC servers.

If yes, please let us know. And maybe the admins can enter future "events" here in the calendar so that we can meet together on one of the servers.

Personally, I would really like to gamble with the "old" people again.

Hello!

Some time ago the ET:L file system issue with .pk3 files with the ~~~ charcater (used to make paks load last) in their names was fixed on TWC by renaming the files. This fixed the filename error, but still users connecting to the servers experienced instant crashes with ET: Legacy clients above version 2.75 on TWC's Jaymod servers.
I noticed the same problem was applicable to our servers, which makes sense since we have a VERY similar setup on our Jaymod servers compared to TWC. I was bored so I began wondering why this was happening.

After a bunch of debugging, I found the problem and asked Zone to mitigate it for TWC as well. The TWC Jaymod servers (NoDownload and Panzerwar) are now working again with ET: Legacy Windows clients. (Tested with ET:L 2.80.2)

<details class="spoiler">
Further explanation for those that care:

This problem has been present since at least ET:L 2.77.x up to 2.80.2. This has only affected Windows clients, while Linux (and assuming Mac also) clients have been able to connect just fine. No error was provided on ET: L on crash, and nothing useful was found in verbose logs using the +set logging 2 launch option either. In there it seemed like a somewhat clean exit, with no errors. This also seemed to ONLY happen on TWC and EA Jaymod servers, or at least I couldn't find any more servers that experienced this issue.

TWC was running the 2.6 linux binary before, and then updated to 2.6b binary, and the problem persisted. Our Jaymod servers are running the ET 3.00 TB 0.7.4 binary, so this should pretty much rule out the binary being the problem.

Things I tried:
- Disabled the auth QMM plugin
- Disabled the Bugfixes QMM plugin
- Disabled the TWC Scumbuster QMM plugin
- Disabled the whole QMM mod
- Disabled ENHMod

None of these steps of course did nothing.

The problem lies in the jaymod .pk3 file, and both TWC and EA were using some custom jaymod .pk3 called jaymod-2.2.0_reds_v102.pk3. I didn't catch this right away because both this and the normal pk3 were present in our servers installation. Comparing this file to the vanilla jaymod-2.2.0.pk3 reveals that only one file is changed between them, the Windows .dll library:

So this explains why the crash only happened on ET:L Windows clients.

Replacing jaymod-2.2.0_reds_v102.pk3 with the normal jaymod-2.2.0.pk3 fixes the issue.

Hey guys hope everyone is all ok. Last few months I’ve been playing et again from having some time out because of work, moving home etc

Now that I’m getting more spare time and structure in my life again was thinking of just playing in server clanless but was also thinking of rejoining TWC (if you would have me back ?) haha

I can see the clan has lost a few members but I want to try and help you guys get this clan back to the greatness it once was.

I was in No Download before I left but seen a lot of members move to nitmod (which I’m still on the roster at level 6 which be awesome if I could keep haha ;D).

In terms of joining a server base I don’t really mind between nitmod or jaymod server. which ever server you think be best to put me in to try and help boost activity I’ll join

Thank you guys

Hello ya'll, i wasnt sure where to put this question but
yous seem pretty veteran and smart so here goes.

I tried installing ET Legacy on my MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

This is my installation process I went through:
1. Download install from -> https://www.etlegacy.com/
2. Run .dmg file
4. Allow shady downloads in mac Security settings
5. Drag ET Legacy to applications folder
6. Download Wolf: ET - Full game files from -> https://www.splashdamage.com/games/wolfe...territory/
7. Copy the pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3 and pak2.pk3 files to etmain in the etmain directory in ET: Legacy
8. Attempt to run ET: Legacy App
9. Get error in title: VM_Create on UI failed

There is some reccommendations to "run as administrator" that i found online but
that is a windows thing or atleast i couldnt find any "run as admin" thing on mac,

Heres my crash log:

0 tty console mode disabled

Hello ya'll, i wasnt sure where to put this question but
yous seem pretty veteran and smart so here goes.

I tried installing ET Legacy on my MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

This is my installation process I went through:
1. Download install from -> https://www.etlegacy.com/
2. Run .dmg file
4. Allow shady downloads in mac Security settings
5. Drag ET Legacy to applications folder
6. Download Wolf: ET - Full game files from -> https://www.splashdamage.com/games/wolfe...territory/
7. Copy the pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3 and pak2.pk3 files to etmain in the etmain directory in ET: Legacy
8. Attempt to run ET: Legacy App
9. Get error in title: VM_Create on UI failed

There is some reccommendations to "run as administrator" that i found online but
that is a windows thing or atleast i couldnt find any "run as admin" thing on mac,

Heres my crash log:

0 tty console mode disabled

Hola to all,

Making this thread to formally let you all know that you can now participate in gather matches in our discord channel. The bot isn't 100% but it's nearly all done.

It'll be the normal formats for scrims, 3v3 and 6v6. The way it works is, the gather bot will pick two captains, and each captain takes turns in manually picking players he or she wants to play with in the scrim. You have the choice of maps from the 3v3 mappool that will be randomly generated, two maps.

The gathers will be watched over by four gather moderators, in myself, Hexomega, Nirv and Sadness, to ensure that there isn't no petty behaviours and fair and even gameplay is taking place. We have our very own gather server, provided by Sadness so thank you from him for letting us use it.

Don't be afraid to jump in and play some games!

If you have any questions then feel free to post here or ask any of the gather moderators.

Thanks for reading. Regards, Valk.

So, it appears that some crafty polaks have found a way to inject some code into server info (not sure which, and how). That might not even be how they are achieving this, but that's what seems the most likely to me.

I'm far to lazy to do any nmap etc. and find out if this is a dedicated server and if they are hosting other shit as well on it, but hey if you are not, have fun!

If someone is interested, please reverse engineer how they are doing this. Also if you know of some nice tricks of how to make ET servers crash, maybe this is a candidate, you know; just to test how crafty they really are. (I don't mean DDoS or anything similar here, that's illegal. There are many other ways to make ET server go byebye )

So, it appears that some crafty polaks have found a way to inject some code into server info (not sure which, and how). That might not even be how they are achieving this, but that's what seems the most likely to me.

Basically they are making clients instantly connect to their server when clicking "Serverlist" on your ET. You can test this yourself, I had 2 people test and they got connected there as well.

This is the server on TB: https://et.trackbase.net/server/polskieswiry and the IP is 51.83.191.245.

What I'm interested in is; how are they doing this? In my ~12 years of playing ET, I don't recall this ever happening before.

Here are some log entries, not sure if these help. All I can gather from these is that when the servers are loaded on serverlist, the connect happens. The first "ERROR" line would indicate they are trying something weird with connection protocols?
I'm far to lazy to do any nmap etc. and find out if this is a dedicated server and if they are hosting other shit as well on it, but hey if you are not, have fun!

If someone is interested, please reverse engineer how they are doing this. Also if you know of some nice tricks of how to make ET servers crash, maybe this is a candidate, you know; just to test how crafty they really are. (I don't mean DDoS or anything similar here, that's illegal. There are many other ways to make ET server go byebye )

For a period, BG was constantly crashing.
DarkMyst stated it would be related with the Aldernest_2 map.

So, in order to fix this, I removed Aldernest 2 from the server, just to see if it was the cause of our crashes.

And............ I made a big mess

In fact, I just renamed the aldernest_2.pk3 to aldernest_2.bak.
But I did not change any config file, I forgot.
So I renamed the file back aldernest_2.pk3, back in the saddle.

Then I had a look in the config files.

The objectivecycle.cfg file was still referring to aldernest_2.pk3.
So the renamed aldernest_2.bak was not found.
After renaming it aldernest_2.pk3, I hope this is fixed.
Well, in fact this should not be a real issue, since objectivecycle.cfg is not executed by server.cfg.

The mapvotecycle.cfg file was referring to aldernest.pk3, not aldernest_2.pk3...
I think that was the source of all thoses crashes...
Fixed.

Everything should be ok now, or at least I hope so

Btw, is there a possibility to avoid this ?
I mean, this surprises me. No file_exists_check in ET ? that's a basic security feature, so... weird !
Is it possible to configure ET to check if a file exists before loading it, or any other security ?

I just know, if something like this happens on BG and admin is there......MUTE right away.!

I totally agree with DarkMyst, this kind of shit almost never happens on BG.
For me, it happened only once : a french player started to be rude against me, saying bad things in french, and mocking me...
I asked him why he did that, he replied something like "don't be a pussy, use a MP40 instead of the Panzer".
So I did, just because I didn't want to create a mess, and after that, he chilled out.

But I don't understand why it regularly happens on other servers.
Maybe because the BG server is claiming to be for beginners, so no need to mock or annoy other players, dunno.
Or maybe cause we have the best HA

So Bond, don't be a pussy, make your application and join the BG server, you will be just fine here, nobody will annoy you anymore...

Hey guys

I recently addressed the inactivity of our servers.. With under my last Post also my suggestion to dissolve the Memberbase for the different servers.

But since I want to go a little deeper into a new thread:

On many servers I noticed that it is player, regular user gives the a really crappy way of playing the day (sorry for the printout).

I would like to ask for more detail, since I think it helps...

I also don't see a reason to deny this, since you have so much more possibilities to control the servers. The balance can be better maintained, the game better balanced and fair.

Then anything else,

Many players have an unintelligible game possibility..

I think it sucks that you have to look at how players camp, barricade in front of enemy spawns and simply nothing is done or you can do nothing...

I think you should find a solution for this quickly, because otherwise our servers will become more and more empty...
