I haven't quite thought about that. Querying the forum is a good idea, but I'm not quite sure if we should allow changing data in the forum.
Also adding the GUID to the forum account will probably work by uploading the etkey file.
It might work like this:
People get level 4 and you tell them to make a forum account. When they first log in they will be asked to upload their etkey.
When they connect to the server the next time the forum will register that it was the first connection with level 4 after the GUID was added (which means that the new recruit registered in the forum). It will then tell the server to set the player level 5 and change the usergroup.
This would be some sort of handshake that seems reasonably fine to me.
Another cool thing, I might add a command that, if authenticated, will allow players to update their colored name in forum from the server.
I'll think about adding that later on.

I'm quite busy, so unless it's a quick thing or really urgent I am unlikely to be able to answer PMs throughout the week, but I try to reach out to everyone who contacted me during the weekends.
