Mapping is not dead yet

I had the same issue as you, as far as I remember you must disable 'only administrator' rights to access the folder. You can also save your map on desktop and have it there for the time you're bulding it.

About textures, did you have a clean install of ET before starting your GTK projects? If not, then all of the images from other maps doesn't have the right path, meaning ET cannot show them and are therefore missing.

Do you have any tutorials to help you? Go to ET Mapping Bible and check out some of the tutorial, you will find a lot of useful tips. I am on the phone currently, so i cannot provide you any screenshots or links.
