Building my own PC
#31
Don't think I've mentioned my new build here...

Ryzen Blackbox 2018, built at the end of 2018.

CPU & Cooler: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X @ 4.15 GHz (8 cores, 16 threads) / Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4
Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix X470-F
RAM: 16GB (2 x 8GB) G.Skill Flare X DDR4-3200 CL14 (Samsung B-Die)
GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Ti GAMING 11GB
PSU: Corsair RM850X (V2 2018) 850W (Fully modular)
SSDs: Samsung 960 EVO 500GB NVME | Crucial MX500 1TB | Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB
HDDs: WD Black 5TB | WD Blue 1TB
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Black
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

No window on case and all internal RGB things disabled Biggrin

Screen #1: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q (27" 1440p 165Hz IPS)
Screen #2: Fujitsu P23T-6 TE (23.5" 1080p IPS @65Hz)
Keyboard: CoolerMaster Masterkeys Pro S (Mx Brown)
Mouse: Zowie EC2-B / DreamMachines DM1 FPS
Mousepad: Steelseries Qck

Audio: Sennheiser x Massdrop HD6XX + Massdrop x Grace Design O2+SDAC + Massdrop Minimic

This setup has some old bits and pieces from my old setup, and some new additions. Especially loving the PG279Q 27" 1440p 165Hz IPS + 1080 Ti combo! Planned upgrade for this year is Zen2, if the IPC improvements are actually as big as they claim. We will see in june/july.

For some reason my phone camera made this looks so wonky, GPU is not actually sagging and the case or cooler don't look this wonky...

Also I'm building a NAS (that will also handle HTPC and other stuff) from my old parts, used parts and a few new ones... Only parts missing from that project are the HDDs and the RAID card;

✔ CPU: Intel i7-3770K (From old build)
✔ Mobo: Gigabyte Z77N WiFi (Bought used)
✔ Cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65 (Bought used)
✔ RAM: 16GB (2 x 8GB) HyperX Blu 1333MHz CL9 (From old build)
RAID Card: LSI MegaRAID 9261-8i (eBay)
✔ SSDs: PNY CS900 120GB | Samsung 840 EVO 250GB (From old build)
HDDs: 4 or 5 x WD Red 4TB or 6TB (depending on the RAID configuration)
✔ Case: Fractal Design Node 304 Black
✔ PSU: SuperFlower Golden Green Pro 650W (From old build)
✔ OS: Windows 10 Pro (Probably)

Nice config, but why a so big PSU ?
With your config, 600W should be quite enough, except if you intend to install a future 1080 or 2080 SLI...

Anyway, I recently changed my video card, exit GT710, welcome GTX 1050 Ti.
So here is my new config :

CPU : Dual Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 @ 2.40 GHz (6 cores each, 12 threads each, total 24 threads)
RAM : 32 GB
GPU : MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
PSU : 490W (stock)
SSDs : Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB
HDDs : Toshiba 2TB | Seagate 650 GB | WD 320 GB
OS : Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Don't think we need benchmarks to tell that your setup with a better CPU and better GPU will destroy mine Wink

My counter question is: Why not?
With it's 10 year warranty it will supposedly last me few future upgrades no matter how crazy of a setup I might go for. Secondly I got a decent deal for it.
With today's efficient PSUs I'd rather get 100W extra than be right at the requirement.

I lost the chip lottery on my Ryzen, it's not a very good overclocker and this combo seems pretty picky with RAM. This is why I didn't manage to tighten memory timings, and had to settle for the D.O.C.P profile of 3200 CL14, which is still pretty good.

I don't have any manual overclocks enabled atm, just the D.O.C.P profile enabled, XFR2 + PBO + Performance Enhancer Level 3 enabled, which results in 2 cores boosting to 4,35 GHz, and all (8) cores boosting @ 4,15 GHz.

For the GPU I let GPUBoost 3.0 do it's thing, I've just set the power limit and temperature limit sliders to max on Afterburner so GPUBoost has more power to work with. This results in ~1860 MHz core clocks on the GPU.
