Building my own PC
#1
Hey guys,

I want to build my own computer (gaming) but I don't really know how to start.
Because I don't really know what's out there for parts etc.
I do have a link ( https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MGhJCy )where there is summed up what parts I kind of want in my computer,
feel free to adjust it and tell me what's good/bad. (another possible build https://www.alternate.be/html/configurat...Id=1139184)
I would like to keep the build between €800 - €1000 of cost.

Any help is welcome Smile

Previous messages about this subject but wrong thread:

me:
You guys know where I can like put my own pc together and let it get made (I don't trust myself to make it)
Belgium/Europe, you guys think it would be smart to like get it made and ship?
Or is it better to search some shop closeby

Mystik:
Check stores in Belgium, maybe check some Belgian tech forum what people are ordering from. I just know alternate and mediamarkt from nl/be. But check some Belgian web stores, and also NL, as they ship to BE in most cases I believe!

An example with a bit of Googling is this site: https://azerty.nl
They seem to ship to Belgium, and offer build services: https://azerty.nl/8-4777/assemblage-installatie.html

These kind of services should be the best, because you can just choose all of the components and add the build service to cart and it's all done. Also they seem to offer separate services for build or build with windows and driver install etc.

Some companies who focus in PCs and PC parts also offer some PCs themselves, like alternate's selection here: https://www.alternate.be/PCs-ALTERNATE-P...tingResult
This is the easiest way, no picking of individual components, just add to cart and done. This is also a con when you can't use offers and exact components of your choosing.

Other crap I found while Googling:
http://www.bytesatwork.be/computer-onder...steem.html
https://www.alternate.be/PC-Builder

But I would really suggest checking out some Belgian tech forum of sort, people who do this nerd shit for a living or as a hobby usually like hanging around tech forums, and are willing to help you! Because it's quite hard to say anything about local stores of another country Tongue

But if you are feeling brave, save 100€ from build service and build yourself from components, it's pretty easy with a little help from YouTube

Me:
Thanks Mystik, I should be able to do it on my own (I am an engineer) but I just want to be sure Tongue
The hard thing is like deciding what to take and what suits best etc.
I am very bad at that Smile Like I have no idea what's out there.
I would defenitly need help with that Biggrin
I just want a decent gaming desktop for about €800 - €1000

I barely know anything about building own PCs, but Lig does and helped me with mine (and his own ofc). We both are using very small PC Cases with a Mini ITX Mainboard/Form Factor.

I can really recommend it because imo it looks cool, is super practical both in case you want to carry it somewhere and also cause it takes up waaay less space on your desk.

A small case does look more handy.
But isn't it a pain to do wiring etc in that?
And idk but don't the small motherboards etc have less/worse spec then standard size or am I wrong?

Like I said in a private shout, that PC part picker is pretty good, but missing SSD and Case. Also getting those prices from Europe is quite impossible.

MiniITX are indeed somewhat harder to build, and harder to make the wiring neat. Of course you can solve this by a modular PSU but some MiniITX cases might have PSU length limitations, and modular PSUs tend to be longer and more expensive. Also there is compromise in heat, and depending on the case some specific components might have size caps, like GPU can be xx cm long or PSU can be SFX form factor only.

Like Mimus mentioned MiniITX cases do look pretty neat compared to big full or mid towers!

Fitting all of those to the 1000€ budget will be quite hard, at least models I can recommend Biggrin I'd recommend prioritizing, for example maybe just a 250 or 480GB SSD (Sandisk Ultra 480GB is very cheap in Mindfactory), and buy a HDD later. Also GTX 1060 6GB -> 3GB would save some. So if you play games that don't need a lot of VRAM, that is an option. Also there is a possibility to just leave the SSD out and go for just HDD, since it wont help game performance, just load times. But the effect is has on the OS is quite drastic, startup and everything is way faster than with an HDD.

The following doesn't include case, 20€ Mindfactory shipping or Windows 10 so something might need to be nerfed more Sad Also if you are feeling brave, get a Windows 10 key from Kinguin for 24€ (and save 90€) but there might be some risks involved. Dunno if you can get a cheaper Win10 100% legit license from Belgium somewhere, compared to 120€ (language: NL) from Mindfactory.

If MiniITX is something you want, then just need to change the mobo to MiniITX and get MiniITX case and check specsheets that everything fits Smile

I wish we could have USA pricing in Europe too Sad

What I like to do when I start dreaming about a new set up is check the site tweakers.net and seach on best buy guid.
https://tweakers.net/reviews/4967/deskto...-2016.html
each couple of months they assemble a new gaming system in a couple of price ranges. What I like about this site is that they explain WHY they pick the parts that they do so you can learn and chose for yourself. You can also see witch shop has the right stuff at the lowest price.

But I also like to pay a bit more at the local shop because I expect a good service. so when I have questions I have someone I can turn to.

good luck on finding your perfect PC

To make it possible to connect to wifi with a desktop do I need like an extra card for that, or do modern cards already have this integrated? Thnx for that site Djuki.

Can I run just with like 250GB SSD and no HDD, or do I need at least an HDD to run computer?

Their 900€ doesn't quite convince me, no OS included, same as my list, no HDD or a CPU cooler compared to my list. Also my list has better SSD and GPU.

You need a motherboard with built-in wifi or then a PCI-E card like
http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.p...80982.html
Cheapest ATX ("normal sized) motherboards with built-in Wi-fi are from 270€, so it's not that common on ATX motherboards. However if you want to go for something smaller, like MiniITX, a lot of MiniITX motherboards actually have built in WLAN. (Even the cheaper ones.)

Yeah, if you think you can fit everything you need to an SSD. Also it's easier this way because you can always buy the HDD later and just put your Steam library there. In the opposite way if you buy a HDD and want the speed advantage of an SSD later on, then you need to reinstall Windows on the SSD or make an image of the HDD and hope it doesn't exceed the size of the SSD... So yeah if you insist on buying just one, then it should be the SSD for sure!

But the thing with games is that they can get pretty big these days, 50-70GB isn't even odd anymore... More like a standard. But of course it comes down to what you play and need! A PC is indeed a Persona Computer, it should fit your needs Smile

About the wifi thingy, Hani suggested me to buy sth like this: https://www.google.be/search?q=alpha+net...AaQ1yTM%3A This is like a wifi receiver you plug into a usb port.

I messaged an old college friend who has build quite a couple of gaming pc's in the past and he's going to help me.
To find parts and to stay on budget Tongue like on what I can save money to still get max preformance.

The prebuild pc (https://www.scan.co.uk/products/scan-gam...hdd-win-10) looks pretty cool as well. Will see when I have a total list, what the diffrence is in prize and preformance. And I would indeed like mystik said rather go for the one of €1096 ( https://www.scan.co.uk/products/scan-gam...hdd-win-10 ) with an SSD.

About that thing from Turkey (other topic) €5000 is crazy to build a gaming pc imo, idk what parts you use but that's out of this world. And my budget is just for computer parts etc: monitor,mouse,... is not counted. OS I would like to try to get into that €1000.

Well, I just got adviced to buy a Corsair M65 mouse, and I'm liking it a lot.
It costs around 55 euros, so that's close to your budget.

I recently built a pc myself aswell for the first time, and just got parts that seemed good to me, and ended up around 1200 euros, so it's not too bad:P

Quick question, to what country are you ordering your parts to?
