AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Butcher - 28-05-2018 Duckies, Does anyone have experiences with that AMD stuff? My computer's screen froze several times recently, just suddenly, so I saw screen full of strips and sometimes sound zzzzzzzz...ing. Not a windows blue screen!!!! I have CPU : QuadCore AMD Athlon II X4 640, 3000 MHz (15 x 200) Motherboard: ASRock M3A770DE (3 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN) Video card: Sapphire Radeon so ATI Radeon HD 5750 I read that early this year there were problems with AMD CPUs drivers when Microsoft installed an update. I fixed it manually (I think so), but problems returned after 3 weeks. Now I checked AMD's support page and saw that they stopped support for some relative older video controllers like mine and they provide or recommend this AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products but with no real guarantees, just 'as it is' https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Radeon-Software-Crimson-Edition-16.2.1-for-Non-GCN-Products-Release-Notes.aspx AMD reports that they are only engaging in the GCN architecture in the future: https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows%207%20-%2064 I would like to ask you if any of you installed this software package, that I think is intended to replace Catalyst Software. I would like to know what I risk if I remove Catalyst and install this one. RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Mystik - 28-05-2018 Yeah DDU and then install latest drivers... The thing with display drivers is that the newest driver might fix bugs x and y, but introduces problem z on operating system f with gpu q... Hope you can fix it with driver fiddling, because stripes could also mean that the GPU is going bad. (Or PSU, screen, faulty cables) RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Valk - 29-05-2018 Bitcher, \quit ET RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Butcher - 29-05-2018 (29-05-2018, 05:54 AM)valkej Wrote: Bitcher, \quit ET Never, dickie, you would be highly missing me then, and I cannot let this happen. :P RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Valk - 30-05-2018 I can’t. I need to do my job in rekking noobs like you RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Butcher - 04-06-2018 Hey Mystic and Darkie, Thank you for your contributions. I have installed this Crimson stuff, so we will see what happens. RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Butcher - 04-06-2018 The Crimson stuff is working well for me. It downloaded a lot of drivers and stuff and I wondered why, but it kept the Catalyst Control Center as main item. I am not sure, if the downloaded drivers are really new compared to the ones that Catalyst earlier downloaded. I will watch, if my computer crashes or will be working stable. I hope for the latter case. RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - Butcher - 05-08-2018 I might have explored the root cause of the blue screen deaths. The shutdowns continued after the software upgrade, moreover they becoma an evgeryday event at computer start. Some sources pointed to the possible fautly operation of video card or RAM memories, so I bought a cleaning spray intended to clean and repair electric contact of electronic circuits and cleaned all memories and the vide card, both the sockets and the modules. My PC seems to have been operating well since this cleaning, so I trust that this was the real cause of freezings and restarts. RE: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta for Non GCN Products - LePresident - 05-08-2018 Glad everything works fine again for you ![]() And just with a spray, fair enough ! I had some trouble with the Quad when I received it : the HDD was a real slow crap full of malwares. So I changed the HDD, and after that, nothing : just a black screen when starting, no boot, I was like "You must be kidding me !" Since the HDD was next to the RAM, I tried to just remove the RAM and put it on. And it worked. I must have move it just a tiny little bit when replacing the disk, and this was enough to crash the mainboard. So an 8 or 10 years old machine is detinitively a sensitive machine, it really needs attention. A regular cleaning is no luxury, and the low low price of zero is worth the try
