How to prevent Windows 10 from auto-restarting for updates

Ahh, the wonders of Windows 10. The way Windows 10 forces updates unless you disable them manually one by one with an external tool, or with Windows Pro is quite something. As a poweruser I like to configure these kind of things myself, for a good reason.

Windows 10 will quietly install updates in the background, depending on your settings. In the latest versions of Windows 10, there are "active hours" that you can set, so that Windows 10 won't restart the computer after the updates, unless the time is outside of "active hours". And of course these can't be disable by normal means, and they can only be set for 12 hours. There used to be options in Windows 10 Pro where you can tweak these further, and even disable updates entirely, but that has been removed by Microsoft... Because fuck you, that's why.

This results in the following: if you leave your PC idle during the time that's not set as "active hours" Windows 10 will reboot your PC and finish the updates.
This might not be much of a problem for "normal" users, but it sure has been for me. I went searching for some tweak on how to disable this after I left my PC on for the night to download some movies linux distros, important browser tabs open... And woke up to a restarted PC with uncompleted downloads and all shit I had on closed.
I tried various methods but as the lovely folks @Microsoft noticed people stopping this and using whatever they could to disable updates and the annoying auto restart, they of course added a bunch of things in Anniversary Update that disabled the GroupPolicy & registry tweaks... But luckily there is one way of disabling it that they likely can't patch in the future either.

NOTE: This only disabled Windows Update's ability to restart your PC. This also means that updates won't completely install before you restart your PC. Updates will still be downloaded and "pre-installed" according to your settings.
NOTE2: This works in any version of Windows 10: Home, Pro, Enterprise...

1) Open Task scheduler
Start menu -> Type in task and Task scheduler should be the first option, even if your windows is not set to english. Or press Windows button + R and type in taskschd.msc and press enter

2) On the left, navigate to Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> UpdateOrchestrator

3) Right click the task Reboot on the middle panel and choose Disable

now the task status should say Disabled on it

Now if we leave it like this, Windows will automatically try and re-enable the task... Rolleye Let's disable this also.

4) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator

5) Right click the Reboot file and choose Properties. Then Security tab and open Advanced settings / permissions on bottom right

6) Look at the file owner and press Change . Type your EXACT username
(name of your account that you use Windows with, it's in the permission list) in the box that opens, and press Ok
If you get any popups asking to use Admin privileges, press Accept or Ok.

7) Press Disable inheritance

8) Go trough each user and group on the list, press View/Modify and change so that they only have 1 box ticked - Read

9) Now on the Advanced security settings window it should only say Read for all users and groups

10) Press Ok untill all dialogs are gone

All done! Now you can wait for the next batch of updates and see if it works...
