Hey people,
we would like to talk a bit about the automute function on TWC servers.
As you all know, we do have a list on the servers with censored words, which lead to an automute ingame if used.
This censorlist exists to serve several purposes like keeping a certain code of conduct on the servers, take work off of admins (like muting) etc.
However, the automute is kinda infamous due to quite some reasons:
1. For an automute, the whole word has to be in the censorlist. And because people who want to use insults are pretty smart sometimes, we have a hard time writing down all words in all different languages and all different ways of writing them including 1337/Leet and so on.
2. Because of number 1., the censor list is constantly growing and tends to be a bit messy.
3.Moreover, sometimes there are words in the censor who were put in due to some reasons a long time ago and are not rly needed anymore.
4. Even though we have a lot of insults in the list, people still find new creative ways of insulting, and always taking the "excuse" that the word was not in the censorlist so why should they be punished.
5. There certainly are a lot more bullet points to come up with, but we guess you all get the point.

What we would like to suggest now is more some kind of poll rather than a suggestion. We have 2 options we can now choose from. We either re-do the censor list for all servers and keep it, OR we remove the censorlist alltogether and therefore aswell remove automute ingame.
However, removing the whole censorlist would mean there is a higher percentage of the mute command being used and ofc the rules about muting will be updated and changed. For example:
a) Insults being used to insult someone --> mute
b) Insults being used for "fun" in talks with e.g. friends --> mute
c) Insults slipping when e.g. getting killed or joking with friends --> its okay, AS LONG as it does not happen too often.
Also, it is pretty likely that there will be more complaints about people whining because they got muted (if theyre right or wrong), but that is a logical consequence because not only the mute is there, but it is combined with an actual person using this command (and therefore having to decide if its muteworthy or not).
We would like to know your thoughts on this matter, your ideas, suggestions and whatever comes to your mind. And ofc what you would rather want to have, a re-done automute or a removed censorlist.

In the last time I never see automute works because like you said, the players are creatives so the automute never works. Maybe the good way is to turn it off and use only command of members/HA for mute them. But the work for TWC members will be more hard and more "boring".

i dont think it will be a problem if we delete it.
It doesnt work as we want anyway, otherwise it will be to much work to add the words.
in my opinion deleting and doing mutes by hand is the best option.
Also the 2 minute mute counter is the worst thing ever if u ask me.

It's more annoying than useful IMO, so delete it.
I was muted begore and many other players were muted on PW even tho there were people that was ok with someone saying as*hole or f*ck.

Please dont forget that in case the automute gets removed, things like "a**hole" etc. are still not wanted, even if its just "for fun" or "a joke". As mentioned above, rules concerning mutes will be updated and things like the above situation will not be tolerated.

Personally I think removing it would be a good idea because when the automute expires, the player/guest typically still starts swearing etc, muting him from the commands means they can be muted for a long time.

I think automute should stay.
It's a very big help for admins on busy servers. Cuz admins can't always be online and can't always follow whole chat (not me at least). A redo of the list is a good idea but I understand this is a big task that best be done by 1. multiple persons or 2. in pieces.
And admins have !mute function for the swear words that aren't in the censor list.
I know from experience that it is a lot of work muting every person who swears. Cuz I at least let swears as a joke pass mostly.
But if you do that with some people they think all swearing is allowed. And would get mad like you didn't mute me before why now blablabla whine whine. With auto mute in work it is always the same. People see that they shouldn't swear if it is as a joke or not. I had to learn it (cuz we didn't have in ex-clan) and still I sometimes get automuted, when I'm not carefull
But I'm much more polite now (not that I wasn't before
) I mean I use a lot less swear words ingame etc.maybe a suggestion isn't it possible if some get like 3 mutes in a row for continuous swearing the programm prolongs the mute? or is it always same standard time. (programers?
)It is less needed on low populated servers like HS,PW,vietnam (for now). Maybe "smart" or try to remove it there.
But like on ND I wouldn't risk deleting it.
Another suggestion maybe make it possible via !cmd to turn automute on/off. Possible for HA to choose when it is needed (when many people on or no members that can regulate mutes) or not (low activity, many active members)
Again is this possible? And sorry this is quite chaotic I come up with these suggestions while I write this
And trust me it's a REAL big drag dealing with all people whinning about people who get or don't get mutes when they swear or not. And you can't always trust regulars word on it etc etc... Get's a really bad player/admin relation in server.
And trollers really like to take advantage of this to troll and make people hate admins. ( I had this in my ex-clan,not fun)

Automute isn't needed, admins can just !mute, no?
