Steam In-Game overlay with ET (Or any other non-steam game) - Mystik - 11-06-2015

Part 1: How to do it

1) Open Steam
2) Choose Games from the upper menu, and choose Add a Non-Steam game to my library

3) A list will open, wait for it to search your games. When it's done, find ET from the list, select it and press Add selected programs

4) Go to your Games and launch ET from there

5) Press your Steam hotkey in-game and the overlay should appear. Enjoy Wink

Part 2: If #1 doesn't work (Written by Mac)

Why it doesn't work:

For those, who have ET installed on the same hard drive than your operating system, the User Account Control on Windows forces you to run ET as administrator, if you have not disabled UAC. This causes ET to work when launched using Steam, but you can't use overlay, because UAC causes you problems.

If you have done the steps in part 1 and overlay doesn't work, these extra steps will fix it:

1) Find your Steam desktop shortcut or Steam.exe.

2) Use right mouse button and open Properties. Navigate to tab Compatibility. After that, check the box saying Run this program as an administrator.

3) Find your ET desktop shortcut or ET.exe.

4) Repeat step 2 for ET to make sure it is also running as an admin. Restart Steam after these steps, and overlay should be working.


IMPORTANT: If it still isn't working, make sure you have first closed / disabled XFire In-game overlay.

How to add people (friends) to steam, or where can I get them? I installed Steam and I added ET to my games.

Click On View Friends List On right bottom corner and then press "+ add friend"

It says I don't meet with the requirements to add friends. Weeeeeird, when I go to their website and try to add friends from there, it also says Their friends list is full.

Yeah sorry Mac, but as i re-enabled UAC some months ago, i thought that the problem wasn't that common, because i didn't get any error when adding ET. Stupid me didn't remember that i set the UAC slider as low as possible while keeping it on, because who the f*ck uses the dim desktop feature anyways? D: Anyways, updated part 2 to the original post and credited you.

Also we could just do it to you remove part 1 from your post and i remove part 2 from mine so its spread to 2 posts Biggrin

Thanks for this post, I was looking for a way to use Steam in-game with ET. I forgot to run it as admin, now it's ok.
