Filtering identical names (archived by John) - Butcher - 23-01-2015 I don't know if this issue was already addressed on ND earlier. Today I saw several dudes playing with the same name or one dudes showing 3 names...? This gldjh.... or I donno what dude was there under the same IP address. There were also players with blank names without # slot number and level. I would consider this a kind of trolling, so I would like to ask, if it is possible to filter such names and to block logon of: 1. Players whose name fully coincides with the name of one of the players online on the server + block renaming attempts to such identical names 2. Players with blank name - I don't know what kind of dirty trick may cause it. See screenshots. RE: Filtering identical names - johnny walker - 23-01-2015 Lol Butcher this blank name guy was me All regular Admins of ND know thats me so pls call me whats wrong with that name first no rule says it isnt allowed to use a nameless name only bad names like Hitler Adolf etc etc etc is not allowed and it isnt a dirty trick. When you guys rly think i should not do this then i dont do this But i think its free to choose that name what i want !!! RE: Filtering identical names - Storch - 23-01-2015 I personally don't mind if you keep that name Johnny, it's just a bit annoying because one always has to look up your slot number first, before writing a pm to you or using a command on you (which doesn't happen that often :P). But we all (almost) know that it's you, and as long as you change your name when people ask you to it's no big deal. But case 1 is really irritating and shouldn't be allowed in my opinion. I don't know if it's possible to prevent people of doing this, but it would be really helpful, also against these kind of 'hackers' who change their names to all connected players within a few seconds. RE: Filtering identical names - djuki - 23-01-2015 I think the other guy just logged in twice on the same PC. happens sometimes when you have a shortcut that directly connect to a server or just xfire to connect. But one of them isnt playing. and they should have almost identical XP. if not something else is going on. I also noticed them a couple of days ago. There were 5 of them, each playing on his own, 2 of them with same GUID and IP, the other 3 with same IP but no guid. They weren't causing any troubles or anything, but still it's irritating. RE: Filtering identical names - Ligustah - 24-01-2015 Sooo, first of all I agree that it can be irritating when several players use the same name, however there's a catch: It's non-trivial to determine who "owns" a certain name, and as such we cannot really be sure who should be allowed to use a certain name, and who shouldn't. We surely could use the authenticator to reserve names for our members, but then again this wouldn't be feasible to do for guests. Other than that I think it's reasonable to let guests share names, as long as they won't cause any trouble. -- Ligustah |
