Gun o' wiki #3 - M1 Garand - Duka - 23-03-2014

Hello TWC brothers and sisters!

Today I'm gunna write about nice weapon - Garand!

So why Garand was made? US army at WW2 was thinking about increase soldier's shot power.

M1 Garand wasn't favourite weapon of US soldiers, becouse they liked more Springfield M1903. But when WW2 started, suddenly, Garands were very usefull and soldiers were using them very often!

M1 Garands were used not only by Americans, but also by Americans allies!
Some countries were even producing that gun (like Italy!).

The history of Garand's producing ended, when new ammo appeared (7,62 mm NATO). Garand was replaced by M14.

When we are playing some et, by engi and using Garand, there is weird metallic sound, when ammo is out. That sound was to inform enemy, that he have to reload his weapon. But also It was used to cheat enemy and make him out from hiding. Pff, in battlefield, that sound was inaudible.

There were a lot of modifications of M1 - Grenade shooter, Sniper modification (Scope, silencer). The best point of gun is large damage. There were a lot of bad points too, but they were eliminated by these modifications.

And nooow! My favourite part! How to hold gun! Biggrin

Holding a Garand is very easy - you just have to keep your second hand where the black circle is.

In ET, Garand is great weapon. Not as fast as MP40 or Thommy gun, but heavier than these two. On our server, Garand isn't forgot - we still have got Garand ninjas on ND or NAM. Great damage and for desert - juicy grenade.

I do not use Garand very often. But when there is less people, than 12 - I am always using it.

Remember - if you have some questions about gun, don't be shy and ask in reply. Thanks for reading!

Kisses and love!

I actually shot the M1 like a year ago, pretty much exactly what I expected from firing a rifle. Felt like firing a really REALLY fast slingshot lol...
EDIT:
Oh nope, I shot the M1 carbine not the garand :3

The metallic sound was just the stripper clip shooting out from the rifle itself when it is empty, as seen here http://youtu.be/OtDoQDJ2Bnw?t=19s
Unlike in ET, you can't reload it mid clip which is a bummer, especially when playing rising storm lol xD

From what I understand soldiers used to tap the clip on their helmets, effectively mimicking the "ping" sound it would make when the empty clip shoots out. The enemy would think "They are reloading, now it's the time to charge, BANZAI!" Right into a fully loaded M1 garanad. Pretty useful in close quarters, especially when they enemy mostly has bolt-action rifles

Awesome post again Dukajek, FG 42 now!!! Biggrin

Well, M1 Carbine has got very similar build like Garand. Many ppl are saying that M1 Carbine equals M1 Garand - ofc this is not true.

Yeah, your BANZAI were used, but unfortunately, only on quiet missions. On battlefield, when grenades are blowing, mortars are shooting, 8912475628 soldiers are shooting too, Garand's PING were, how I wrote, inaudible - enemy didn't hear that PING!

Thank you Gaia for your opinion! I promise - next will be FG42!

<3

Yeah the ping trick was only useful in quiet operations, such as search and destroy through a building and such, int he video I posted the guy also explains the false thought that the PING gave away the soldiers who were forced to reload hense vulnerable, though with 10 MGs and tanks firing all over no way you would hear it from 200m Biggrin

Am I the only one who is so excited by these posts[/size]? lol
