AMD Catalyst driver - Windows 8.1 (archived by Mimus) - Mutter Theresa - 23-01-2014

Hi TWC Team,

I am kinda frustrated. I got a massive fps problem with my PC after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.1 RC.
All versions after Catalyst 13.4 lag after installation, version 13.4 does not lag after installation but does after the next reboot. I have no clue what to do, anyone of you had similiar topic and solved it?

Thx Mummy-T

I have never heard of lagging drivers, but maybe games that may have fps drop due to incompatible drivers. but if you say that old driver runs good, way change it?

try to be more clear

ET actually runs at super low FPS for me as well. It's been like this for quite some time, so it's hard to tell for sure, but I do have an AMD card as well.
Running Catalyst 13.9 and driver version 13.152.1.8

Haven't actually got the idea to check for driver related problems. I'll do some investigation later and will see if I can come up with something.

Strange is - after re-install 13.4 - it works for the moment at 90 fps. After reboot - fps rate drops to 10 in some scenes.

I have the bad feeling - I have to re-install that Win 8.1 or set it back origin modus.

Why don't you try to reinstall win8.0?
just an idea

Why don't you just use Windows 7?

Well guys, I found a solution. Its more a workaround then a solution but anyway. What I did:

I deactivated quickstart

in energy settings. I had this similiar thing long time ago with my USB satellite card. After reboot, my TV software didnt recogiuze my tv card. Obviously the driver still cant manage the Windows 8.1 energy mode. If you have problems with devices after reboot / restart just deactivate quickstart in energy settings.

AMD always have trouble with their drivers, you can check for optimized/modified graphic drivers for AMD( used to have those from http://www.ngohq.com/ but i see they dont have them for windows 7 and 8)
If that doesnt work i suggest switch to Nvidia cause they have very stable drivers, went thru the same issues(gamme stuck at 1.6 after newer drivers etc etc)
I have now Nvidia GTX 650 OC v1 by MSI and lost all problems(running ET stable 200-300fps).
And this is the cheapest GTX available in NL for just 86 euros with 1GB GDDR5

Well, at least all programs run fine except ET. Is there a debug mode in ET to see the complete starting sequence of ET (what opengl dll in what path is loaded). When I know this, I will install new driver and replace atioglxx.dll with old version.

I hate to do that crappy shi*

after starting the game open you console screen and type /comdump [name].txt
in this case /condump startup.txt
I hope this is what you wanted to know.
Already tried tp reinstall ET/ btw?
