Improve bots and omnibot (archived by iTim) - a TEAMMATE - 03-12-2013

I think we should make bots stronger on ND. They are absolutely useless now.

Read here for more:

What is the currentdifficulty and moveskill settings now?

Also names could be changed...

In Vietnam they are much stronger than ND.

I think you should improve bots on all servers so even if there are no players at all that it still is a bit challeging to fight these bots =)

RE: Improve bots and omnibot - Antho - 03-12-2013

Will take a look on our current config in ND and post the crucial parts here.

E: Check the spoiler
Spoiler
[Difficulty] // Sets the difficulty of the bots. (0=poorest,1=very poor,2=poor,3=easy frag,4=standard,5=professional,6=uber)
CurrentDifficulty = 3
AdjustAim = 1
[CombatMovement] // Sets the combat movement skill of the bots. (0=off, 1=easy, 2=medium, 3=hard, 4=random)
moveskill = 2

RE: Improve bots and omnibot - a TEAMMATE - 03-12-2013

can we raise difficulty to 4 (standard) and moveskill to 3 (medium)?
Also changing turning speed lower could make bots more realistic:
Quote:Another great tweak to improve the realism of the bots is to slow down the turn speed of the bots. The regular speed is 720 degrees per second. This means they can do a 180 degree turn in one fourth of a second and headshot you. When combined with a 2 second reaction time, this results in a bot that does not notice the human player for two seconds, then instantly snaps at them and kills them. Not fun.

Lowering the Turnspeed from 720 down to 360 or 480 creates a much more realistic-looking player.

Go into omni-bot/et/scripts and open def_bot.gm. Look for this setting:

this.MaxTurnSpeed = 720.0;

and change it to 360, or 480 for more realistic-looking playing.

This tweak can be done on 0.66 too, but in the difficulty.gm file instead.

raising the movement difficulty I can understand, but I dont think you want overpowered bots

I think this counts as a subtle change so it doesn't have to be voted for through the poll. I'll ask ocean and chuck.

E:
// ReactionTime is the time delay(in seconds) from when a bot first see's a target, to when
// the bot will begin to react and target them.
this.ReactionTime = 2.0 -> This could be decreased to 1.25/1.5 seconds to balance out the turnspeed reduction to something like 480.

I can't see any problem to change the values, everybody will be able to test new settings and give few words filled with opinion about bit smarter and better shooting bots.

You could make a poll to get some ideas how members want it.

RE: Improve bots and omnibot - a TEAMMATE - 04-12-2013

I think this has to be tested on server. How can we say, for example, that X values is right if we can't even try it? One setting could be changed at time and see how it goes.

Or maybe test it on Chuck fun server as usual Biggrin

Anyway bot are there only when there are a few people connected so it won't be noticed so much...

RE: Improve bots and omnibot - ocean - 04-12-2013

Imho the proposed change for 1-2 days won't harm any1. At least many players can test such omnisettings and elaborate they "feelings" around it Wink and ofc we can always back to the previous state if needed.
