Overwriting annoying custom menus - Destroy666 - 19-03-2012

Are custom menus annoying you? There are 2 easy ways to avoid them.

1. Less work, more size

1. Open your et folder, go to specific mod folder where you want delete custom menus (so etmain for startup menus, jaymod for menus when leaving jaymod servers etc.).
2. Copy the latest mod pk3 to the same folder (in etmain pak0.pk3)
3. Rename it to
Code:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.pk3
with as many ~ as possible (in this example they're sufficient).
Why need name like that? ET can load only filenames with ASCII characters <=127 in ascending order. ~ is number 126, so there is 1 char more which can overwrite this - called DEL (looks like square, unfortunately doesn't display correctly in browsers so can't post it). Also that many ~ because the maximum chars in file to let it download seems to be 52 without extension or 56 with extension.
After that no custom menus/sounds will appear, it will always stay default menu.
2. More work, less size
1. Again, go to mod specific folder
2. Open/unzip the latest mod pk3 (need for example PakScape or Winzip to do that)
3. Copy all files which you want to be always default (so menus, sounds and icons I guess).
4. Create new pk3 (with same name as in 1st method), use also PakScape or Winzip. All files need to be in same directories as in mod pk3!
After that no files which you added to
Code:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.pk3
will be changed.

You can also modify the menus for your own needs, like adding favourite servers etc.

This will only work for menus which aren't in-game (on server)! So it won't work for ingame_main.menu for instance.
