Advent Cake Day at ligs moms community place thing.

Not much time at hand for thinking, wanted to make some cake with mango and raspberry but oh well, its christmas time.

Decide to mash some nice wintery things like cinnamon, gingerbread and speculoos spices. Worried about how to transport it (no car, and since i never use fondant anymore because people hate eating it (no wonder, its just tasteless, papery-claylike sugar) i have to go with cream) without the cake cream getting destroyed or at least smeared everywhere.

But oh its christmas time, why make sure everything is smooth when i can just make it a snow-landscape with untidy, creamy snow? Biggrin

Inspired by my cousins and mine last village: The Penguins Home!

Speculoos-Buttermilk Cake filled with glogg (hot wine punch; but for kids :P no alc)-puddingcream and topped with gingerbread-bisquit-cake. Covered in cinnamon-mascarpone-creamcheese-cream and decorated with american-buttercream-trees (ice-cream-cones as tree underneath the cream), chocolate-marshmallow-penguins and marshmallow-snowmans and, ofc, a butter-cookie-house (no time to bake actual gingerbread). All sprinkled with powdered sugar^^ cause yo, snow.

PS: Excuse the mess, i took the pic right after being done with the cake and before tidying :P You dont wanna see the rest of the house though
PPS: Will provide y'all with an inside-pic on sunday evening

Two new cakes Biggrin

I actually forgot to take a pic before it was halfway eaten but oh well. It looks a bit weird because its a "low-carb" bday cake for ligs sister. Lots of nuts in it, even the frosting isn a frosting but basically cashew-butter-cream. Also, fruits n stuff, chocolate cake and a date-filling (date, as in the fruit :P)

The other one is more for the looks, ill update with cut-pics. Its the first cake ever I got money for Biggrin so im srsly proud. Even though its just 20€. Only covers the ingredients because fondant tends to be expensive, and the chocolate inside...well quality choc is way better than cheap stuff.

The cake is for a lil boy who turns 10 and loves the Berliner Eisbären (ice hockey team). The logo is on the cake, and yeah its covered in fondant. Yknow im not a fan of it because it only tastes like suger but i guess a 10y old will be more into the appearance of the cake than in the actual taste (and his mom requested fondant, quote: "he loves sugar so i bet he doesnt mind").

Cake is just some red and blue cake without special additions. However there is a white-chocolate-ganache inside and under the fondant layer to prevent crumbling.
On the pic there are still some wet spots where i fixed some minor issues with the covering. fondant RLY is a b**** to work with >.<

damn mimus that looks good! say why dont you do it as a profession? you obv got mad skills

RE: Cake Thread (for bollie :P) - Mimus - 17-02-2016

Gotta admit im thinking about stopping my studies at the university (srsly, arts and science is nice and all and i love researching architecture, but...its not cakes :P) and start an actual apprenticeship in a confectionery, but my parents are not too happy with that and get slightly mad whenever i start talking about it. Ofc its my life and im an adult so they cant prevent me but its hard to find the "balls" to do it if ure parents are only waiting for you to fail hard and say "i told you so". I guess some of you know that, imo, elderly attitude? My moms all about studying thinking you cant get a decent job without a university degree and all which is i think because of her past in the DDR (google it, there was lots of stuff going on if u wanted to study and people who did so were indeed srsly "upper class", way more than it is today). Anyways, im still struggling but gaining more and more confidence with each and every cake :P Babysteps.

Well what year are you in in college or university? It's always a smart idea to just get your degree and have it as a backup when your dream for baking cakes fails. But you do have baking skills imo. I would pay more then €20 for that cake Biggrin

But yea I know that elderly attitude way too well Biggrin
Although I love what I'm studying whenever I start talking like about a cool future she like "just make sure you pass these exams or that project or test,..." it never stops.... (well it will in june when I graduate Biggrin )

Goodluck! and start living your dream, not bad to have a backup tho Biggrin

really nice cakes indeedBiggrin can you see them well again?
and ye its hard imo to decide what is the best balance between what you want to do for living (if you already know that because i dont:P) and if you do know it its hard to do what you like and make some good money. it isnt that easy for every1:P
