RE: HDD - Chuck - 05-04-2020

or check partitions, thats what i would check first. Mostlikely there is a partition made of only 150GB hence u can only see that. you can either full erase the HDD to make a 2TB partition or extend the partition to 2TB but that can take a while.

RE: HDD - Chuck - 05-04-2020

Hirens is a bit overkill for this purpose tho :P, he can easily fix this in windows himself. No need to make this even harder for him. If u have a 2TB drive and u see only 150GB of it means the partition made on the drive is 150GB and can be easily extended

Fdisk/partition magic and hdd programs for different brands. I us(ed(ing) it a lot and helped me out of different issues before. And some hundreds more to play with. Probably one of these programs will solve your issue and at the same time you learn from it.
nice to hear, let me try today, thx

I don't want to appear as rude but,

Have you got scammed ? Biggrin

RE: HDD - Chuck - 05-04-2020

He could easily verify that with crystaldisk info https://crystalmark.info/en/download/

RE: HDD - Mystik - 05-04-2020

The information that he is providing is very lacking.

So how was this "too basic"? What happened? Did you get an error? Or did it just say the 150 capacity when you tried to format it / create a partition.

What is the exact model of the HDD?
Which OS are you using?
Can you list some of your other specs, like Motherboard and CPU?
When you see the drive in Disk Management, what does the capacity say on the left? (Please screenshot if possible)
And I'd add to the list: Where did you buy the drive from? A reputable reseller?

Please take a screenshot of how the HDD looks in Disk Management:
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Under "Administrative Tools", choose Create and format hard disk partitions.
Or optionally type "Create and format" in Windows start menu's search and it should find it. (If your Windows is in another language then english, you have to type what it could be in your language)

When you get there, you should see all of your drives. Here you can screenshot what it says on the left, it should show the real capacity of the drive.

Yes, Toshiba does not have any 3.5" HDD factory, they just rename and sell Hitachi HDDs.

RE: HDD - Chuck - 05-04-2020

they do :P https://www.codima.be/toshiba-x300-4tb-sata-iii-7200rpm-128mb-3-5-bulk

RE: HDD - LePresident - 05-04-2020

Nope, it's part of the 2012 agreement.
Still Hitachi factory, just renamed Toshiba.
European directive, etc...
