Forum Like button (archived by NightFall)

Hey guys,

I don't know if it's been a suggestion here before, but what I'm kinda missing on the forum here is a like button, it's just a simple button to press if you like a post, and I don't mean the +rep button with that which is already there, I really mine a like button (take our friendly clan-neighbors EA for an example, they have a like button on their forums).

I'd really love to see a like button on this forum

I don't see the point in having a like button. This is not facebook after all. If you have a like button you need to have a dislike button and this is just going to lead to nowhere. Besides, how do you think it is going to work? What advantages do you expect? I really don't see any arguments to have somerhing like that here.

As much as i understand the idea of a like button (thinking about all the times i have seen the useless "+1" answer on several threads) I aswell see problems with the like button. Not only because a like button also calls for a dislike button, as poseidon said, but even more because i would like to prevent discussions from being seen as "solved" just because person A gets a lot of like on his/her post, so people think thats whats the best.
I myself am a huge fan of having actual reasons for opinions and other things, so I do not like the idea of giving likes without having to provide the fellow readers with some enlightenment on the "why".

However, I could live with a like button for, i dont want to say not important, but less "discussiony" things like spam section, creativity corner and such. I just dont want to see facebook likes in important discussios.

In my opinion we don't need the like button. It's really of no use

We used to have it in ex-clan forum. I think it is handy, like in the creative corners of the forum etc.
Also in welcoming posts and birthday posts. I think it is really annoying to type something like: "Yea that is a good idea" as a comment to someone's topic. It is way easier and less annoying to read with just a like button.

In a disccusion post you can just see thrue likes what people like the most of what people don't like.
And the ones who want the change still have to add arguments and use extended posts, but the ones who commend don't always need to fill the topic with useless non-topic comments.

I don't see the point of having a like button when if you like a post you can reply and put a as a reply.
I don't disagree nor do I agree because the like button has a lot of uses as well as negative effects. I see that the like button can be used to like a post a lot more easily and can be used in socializing on the forum but if we have a like button, then that means we need a dislike button as poseidon said. every positive change might bring an equally negative change but then again we can add a like button without a dislike button like with reputation we used to have negative rep options but we don't have them any more because of many reasons to do with causing more social fallouts in groups.

I am neutral in my opinion to this because I see an equal negative to a positive so this is the result.
